Playing PSX games on a PC

Hi,
First of all, I own a Playstation 1 and Playstation 2 and own all of the games I am planning on playing.

Is there any way I can play my PSX games on my PC, from the CDs?

Is there any way of doing so and still keeping the ability to print screen and alt+tab?

I tried google, but you know what the Internet's like - so many scams and trojans and shit. I also don't torrent.

Ofcourse, just download ePSXe, it's probably the best PSX emulator out there at the moment, and if you put your PS1 game in, you can choose to run from the disc, which works fine.

Oh cool, I'll try it out in a sec.

I have my wii on my main tv and my 360 on my secondary, running out of tvs and scart plugs lol.

Hmm, on the ePSXe website, it doesn't have the plugins you need for it, which means you'll either have to go hunting, or ask me nicely to send you them, lol...

While emulation is not illegal, you can't emulate a PSX game on the PC without breaking the law. You will need a key file called a "BIOS," which is the game system's operating system. Just like owning ROMs are illegal, so is owning a BIOS. However, ePSXe is the best PSX emulator available, and I have used it on occasion.

I use it quite regularly lol, infact, I came off it about 20 mins ago, been playing Final Fantasy IX every day since last tuesday for atleast 2 hours a day, lol... damn I love that game too much.

i just use my ps3 or my ps2. I don't know why wyatt has a problem with switching video cables any way. My ps3 and 360 share a monitor, and my n64, ps2, and wii share a TV. Everything else is packed away right now.

I have a PS2, PS3 and 360 sharing the HDTV above my head, and I don't have my PS1 or N64 set up anymore, I prefer to use emulators for them, although for some PS1 games I'll obviously use the real disc if I have the game, and well, I don't think you can get an N64 > PC adapter, or I haven't come across one yet...

If you did own the original game then you are not breaking the law.
misconception. "backup" copies have only been ruled legal where they exist in the same format as the original -- since PSX roms are just iso or bin-cue files on fancy black CD-ROMs, they're more or less alright. SNES games, however, come hardwired into a cartridge and have to be dumped into a new medium.

that's what I'm told, at least. the laws being as curmudgeonly as they are in that respect, I'd be more willing to believe that it's simply illegal to own video game ROMs short of abandonware, period, and the preceding is just a happy rumour with no basis in legal practice.

I used it for awhile to play FFIX, but then I realized I had a PS2 that I could play it on. ePSXe is good if you have no other options. I personally didn't like the way it rendered FFIX, and I ran into slow ups all the time. Which makes no sense because I'm running on a Core i7 with 1GB of VRAM. I'd say take the time to plug in your old console, instead of fiddling with the emulators.

pc emulation, notably things like epsxe, allow for savestates, which I really, really like. Cheating my way through things are fun, as well as seeing how the RNG of games work.

There is PCSX2 for PS2 games which has worked pretty well for me. (Been playing Disgaea 2 on my PC since the sound is better than had I connected it to my TV)

It is probably legal to extract the BIOS from your own gaming console and use it for the emulator. (Assuming you own it legally)
It is probably not legal to download a BIOS from the internet.

just do what mawk does and assume all emulation's illegal
and not care shit about it

I'm actually waiting till I get a new computer to try out pcsx2. Hopefully a newer version comes out as well.

Really? I play all my PSX games with a 65 framerate cap, and they run smoothly with no slowdowns whatsoever, the only slowdown I get on FFIX is when I enter the overworld (World map) it dips down into the 40 range for a few seconds, then back up to 65 o.O

Wierd. Everything runs great until I go into battle. Then everything lags, even the audio. I wish I was determined enough to tinker with the settings, but I have the console to get my IX fix with, so I'm not overly depressed. I do wan't to get my hands on Legend of Dragoon through questionable methods. Hopefully it will run better than IX does.
