If you want to be Pro-Life, go ahead. Personally, I'm neither. I just don't give a fuck. As long as no one is bombing these places (Which I know sometimes happens, but those are the extremes of the extremes), I could care less. I can see the points of view of both sides, but it generally doesn't affect me either way.
I am anti-abortion, but I don't think making it illegal will solve anything. It's been said before, but in a perfect world, girls who couldn't keep their pants on on wouldn't need an abortion. But often times, abortion is necessary in the real, ugly world.

But I do think it is kind of ridiculous that schools nowadays take sex ed too far. Practicing on how to put a condom on? WTF? I do not think educating kids about sex is a role of the school. The biology and science of sex, yes, just like you learn how other animals procreate should be taught, but I don't think the school is really the place to learn about that kind of stuff.

It's called Planned Parenthood not because the conception was planned, but because your planning the possible parenthood itself with their service.
I could accidentally get someone pregnant. But I can help plan what to do next, be it raise a child, abort, put up for adoption, college fund - whatever.

Steve's right, the goal in teaching kids how to apply condoms isn't to promote them to have sex, or show them how, but to help protect themselves. However I disagree with you steve that school should be the only place to teach about sex. I could see a religious body going through the religious implications, or perhaps when a person comes of age there is a sexual rite to pass. I do agree that government can back the fuck off though.

Let's take a look at where various places a person can learn about such things as sex, condoms, etc.
Religion. Let's look at hardcore Christians who do not believe in birth control or condoms, or any protection of any sort. If you are a hardcore Christian, fine. But obviously this is only going to apply to that niche and that niche alone. If I was not a hardcore Christian, I am screwed out of a possible education.
But what of atheists and such. Well there's always parents, but... yeah no. I'm not even going to go into the problems there. My parents never gave me "the talk", probably because by the time they were thinking they should start thinking about giving me the "talk" they found out I didn't need it :x
But parental advice is a horrible option because it's not just kids who are confused or messed up. Parents can easily not know something. My parents really don't know about STDs, so if they were to teach me about things, STDs would be HIV, and crabs. That's primarily it. Outside of showing dirty magazines to a kid, there's no point to "the talk" from most dads I've heard.
The education system is the only system that would be enforced to keep things professional, as well as being held responsible for misinformation. There would be a curriculum that should be enforced. Private schools are one matter, but a public school has to answer to the public and to the board of education directly. Though both are horrible horrible people to answer to, they are the closest we get to a full and complete education about sex, the dangers that could happen, and the proper way to safely enjoy it - if you were to.

Keep in mind if you have one option open that doesn't rule out learning about sex ed from another avenue. If we were to assume one were a hardcore christian we could also assume they probably wouldn't be going around having sex, or at the very least only going up to third base. I've been around lots of christian girls and some get squeemish if you hug them the wrong way (while still in a relationship.) The only reason I see allowing religion to teach its own practices regarding sex is because for some faith is a very important thing, and it's important a child know how their religion affects that part of their lives. We just have to hope they have the open mind to make rational decisions based on what they want, and not dogmatic insistence.
I also agree with you on parents. In fact, I haven't met a single person who's parents weren't on the ball about that, especially since most of them grew up in the 70s. I loled when somebody said schools teach kids how to put on a condom. I am the product of at least three such classes, which were taken out of PE when in middle school and as a dedicated period of the day in high school. I will personally attest that we were all told that A) Sex is bad, B) STD's are horrible things and some you can never get rid of, C) Homosexuality doesn't exist (or at least that's the assumption you can make for its absence from the curriculum), D) The only and best form of contraception is absolute abstinence.
This program did not exactly work for me, but that would be the personal reason why I'm interested in this particular topic over all others in the Symposium.

And in 6th grade there was a speaker who said abstinence is the best contraceptive (which it is) but also that sex is good, and to be enjoyed. Also, I don't see why sex ed should cover homosexuality. That's like saying they should teach about people who enjoy edible underwear. Homosexuals have a problem with always being associated with sex, when it's a lot more than that.

In the context of STD's, you'd think they'd mention something about it. If it were true sex education, they'd also have taught about lubrication, but noooooo.

I'm saying that they never said that anal sex can give you AIDS. Not that I remember anyway. Not saying that but going after hetero sex implies that homo sex is perfectly safe.
EDIT: I'm going to stop talking about this now, because I feel I've put my foot in my mouth trying to prove that sex education not only isn't as bad as religious extremists think it is, it's nothing but token education.
