Picture as Map

So, I know how to insert a picture into VX, that's not my problem.

What I need to know is how to make it so I have events (which in this case are locations on the map) show up above the picture. Do I need to make them pictures as well (I am currently just using simple orb events to show points on the map) or somehow make my map a tileset, etc.

Why not just have the map as a panorama and put it on a blank map, and everytime you use it you're teleported to the map?

Just a note but I advise searching the forums for "panoramic mapping" - there are a few complications with using Panoramas, but they can be overcome with scripts and such. I think we have some tutorials, anyway.
