Persona 4

I know we had a little SMT fanclub going here the last time I was around, so I'm kinda wondering why I can't find a thread about the newest SMT: Persona title here yet.

Short and sweet, Persona 4 cashes in on everything people loved about Persona 3, refines them and new treats are thrown in for good measure. It's an awesome game, and if you loved the previous game you owe it to yourself to grab a copy of this one.

Of the more notable features, you can give direct commands to your party now. Also, by pressing the square button you get a list of local areas in the map you can teleport instantly to. No more walking around unnecessarily. No more Tartarus either- instead of the one ginormous dungeon to explore in like in P3, you get around 6-7 smaller dungeons with roughly 10 floors each in P4. The fatigue system's been taken off, so you have more time to explore the dungeons, but HP/SP isn't recovered when you teleport back into the rest area, so conserving SP is more important this time around. Instead of the three social stats you needed to raise in P3, you have five (Courage, Intelligence, Expression, Diligence, Understanding) to raise now, and raising them actually reap more rewards this time- certain responses when speaking to other characters are only useable at a certain level of a certain stat, or pay for jobs can vary depending on your level of Diligence or Understanding.

The story's a big one up too compared to the third. I love the cast. Their social link scenarios are so much more 'real', or their age now, as opposed to those in P3. They're a quirkier lot now too- I'll spare the spoilers, but I have to say I absolutely loved Kanji and Naoto.

So, anyone else have this game? I'm at 12/24 right now on my way to face the last boss, but I'm holding out til the last week of the year because I'm only at like 64% of my Persona compendium and I think I only maxed out like 6-7 of my Social Links. Baww. I'll do a second cycle I guess, but I feel like I'm seriously missing out on some kick-ass Persona.

You should probably read the whole post you quoted. Yes, I have it, and no, I'm not done yet. I'm at the last boss- power grinding first before I finish the thing and go on second cycle.

My husband really loves this game. I, personally, tried it, and can't stand it. I don't like teenagers, I don't like high school, I'm sick of Japan, and I hate grinding more than anything in the world. So

I do like the premise of the plot, but IMHO it is executed in the most japfaggy way. It's like a dating sim with no naked pics and way too much RPG grinding.

Anyway, just my two cents on it

I played P3 and P4 only cuz I played P2 EP... and I got to agree with all that Venetia said, the story is good though, it can keep you playing despite everything else.

The game is a great improvement from its predecesor like Sabao said but its not even close to what P2 EP was.... damn Atlus

I can't find this game D:

I'll have to order it, I loved PS3, still going through it, only 3 more months or so till I'm done, but it kinda gets boring, still really good imo.

I have to wait till March till it comes out down where I live...

But it looks like an improvement from Persona 3 but as one person said already, these two hardly compare to Persona 2 Eternal Punishment or Persona 2 Innocent Sin for that matter, but I doubt anythingcould be worse than the butchered American version of Revelations: Persona

I was very skeptical going into Persona 3: FES, and I'm actually glad that I was. I didn't have very high expectations, but it blew me away. No RPG has engaged me as much as Persona 3 has in a long, long time. After thoroughly enjoying Persona 3, I was afraid that Persona 4 wouldn't live up to it.

I also thoroughly enjoyed Persona 4. While the gameplay was by and large greatly improved, I actually liked the story and cast of Persona 3 a lot more. I don't know. The characters in 4 were well-developed and likeable, but I just liked the cast of P3 more. Both games were very enjoyable experiences, however. I liked how they were legitimately challenging.

I'm still playing Persona 3. I'd had it forever now, the pace is so slow. I like the concept and the artwork. The story and characters are interesting but the game play is boring.
I read in a game mag that P4 is the same a P3 only with minor improvements.
