Never to plan, never to ponder... only to proactively persevere.
This game was started on June 14th, 2014 and was to be completed in time for a certain contest. It missed it's deadline though due to needlessly confusing chronological shenanigans, but given that it was near done, I decided to polish it up and release it contest or none.
Given the contests "commercial" nature, everything in the game has been either purchased (by commission) or is Royalty-free (Sound effects and fonts) or done by me myself and I. The only resources that aren't mine or the CCC's workmanship are some royalty-free sounds from a soundbank, the RTP things, which given the contests nature and the nature of RPG Maker by itself, is allowed.
It's yes, quite possible I could sell this game, but I wont, as the penman and idealist behind the CCC Profit Philosophy, most of you are aware that I don't believe in charging just to see and play a game. I'm not in the industry to make a profit.
Why am I in the industry? Well, basically it rolls down to martyrdom, when I die I want to be remembered for something, be it my art, my generosity or my awesome games, thankfully the gaming niche provides a way to be remembered for all three, and games these days as a whole aren't incredibly hard to compete what with so many of them being mediocre or garbage. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't believe in catering to the masses, we'll make the games we want to make, not the ones popularity demands. We'd never compromise design and fun for monetary gain or political influence. We cannot be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with.
We just want to watch the worldburnturn.

We just want to watch the world
The Story focuses around the adventures of Pep Cookiedoe, quite a symbol among the wide cast of characters in the Biztopian Universe, back before his meeting with the two friends who would become the trio of Intelligence, Pep was alike his brother Sven and his father Sped, part of an infamous bloodline who would rebel against a tyrannical despot in a futuristic dark saturated version of Britain. This story begins mere moments after Pep's father inflicts some damage to a dread pig, while dying in a glorious blaze of red cordial that had been set alight, he throws his trusty shotgun to Pep, and tells him it's his turn... this activates the perseverance in Pep and he takes hold of the situation, and without having much control over his emotions, kills the Dread Pig accosting them, and realizes after what he'd done. He admits fault and pleas that his brother punish him. Sven only replies with "Maybe...", and Pep is told there is much he does not yet understand.
Join Pep, Sven and Nola in a story about revolution, planning and how to persevere when planning isn't an option, which is pretty much always!
Join Pep, Sven and Nola in a story about revolution, planning and how to persevere when planning isn't an option, which is pretty much always!
The world, much like in Intelligence, is set after the Humans hasty departure from Earth, and the mammals had taken over as the predominant species of the planet. The area is post-monarchy Britain, where a Tyrannical despot had beheaded all of the monarchy and taken a stranglehold of the country himself by way of Naxonism, the cities have been grossly effected by the turncoat, hosting his bizarre palette and having enough systems of surveillance that it makes big brother look conservative. The Cookiedoes continue to elude him, and so he brands the Perseverance Union as Heretics and a large bounty is placed on the heads of the remaining heirs of the Cookiedoe bloodline.
Most of Naxon's original cultists have been transformed into hideous pig-like abominations, though only one of them willingly. The city has a red alert function which is activated when a certain lardball shows up so that people can evacuate before he starts to wreck some havoc.
The game starts due west of St. Albans. in the Heartwood forest, and later takes stage at Neo-London, referred to as "The Frostbitten Citadel". St. Albans is a City 91 KM North of London in the real world, and the Heartwood Forest is located near it. So again, I'm able to pull from real life locations because that's fun. Also given the ever expansive nature of my Universe and it's obligation to canon, was a necessity regardless.

Pep Cookiedoe
Species: Tabby
IQ: 145
Origin: London
Gender: Male
Pep is the charming lead protagonist of the game, he's impulsive, irregular and chaotic, he starts out feeling like he should care, but later becomes comfortable with killing by necessity. Being the youngest heir of the Cookiedoe bloodline, he seems to be the stronger. Sven stated that he never really got the affiliation with chaos his father did, and was relieved to see Pep followed his father more closely.
Pep is an unpredictable sort, full of surprises and without much forethought. His personality is chucklesome, uncontrolled and free-form. He like all in the bloodline, has an infatuation with Red Cordial much to the chagrin of most others who commonly label it as "red swill". Pep is never really initiated formerly into the Union his father started, there's no time for such ceremony, he has dread pigs to destroy and despotic Lichen to dethrone.
Sven Cookiedoe
Species: Tabby
IQ: 139
Origin: St. Albans
Gender: Male
Sven is Pep's elder more calm brother, he seems to not have the inherit disregard for routine or schedules that the Cookiedoe's are known for. He poses himself very much as a gentleman. He looks up to his little brother, and while envious, knows that it's important he be the Union's leader rather than himself. In the scene of Sped's death, Sven can be seen crying and while he's not a very expressive or animated character, he does definitely have the ability to feel emotions. Fear, sadness and anger aren't beyond him. He is also clearly attached to not only his family, but the Bloodlines legacy.
Sven makes himself very easy to get along with, not often making demands or even showing signs of doubt. He is for the most part, incredibly laid back and would rather watch a scenario play out from a distance rather than involve himself directly.
Nola Worthington
Species: Bombay
IQ: 157
Origin: Nottingham
Gender: Female
Nola is no stranger to tragedy. Her entire family had been killed or detained prior to joining the Perseverance Union by the Naxonites, Sped recruited the eager Worthington as a hitgirl, a job she took a huge shining too. Her methods are calculated, concise and critical. She would serve as the second in command during Sped's campaign, and remain so for Pep's final rebellion.
She joined the Perseverance Union to seek revenge on those who had wronged her, realizing too late that she probably was a sociopath, she decided to continue in the bloodwake she brought to any who she faced. Nola's personality is sassy, shrewd and for the most part, she seems to be looking for a reason to despise an object. She also invites morbid discussion first, which can often make others a little uneasy. She however does care for those she's allied with, to the point of having a sort of mental crisis as the end of their adventure was neared. Stating that without a legion of monsters to quell her bloodthirst, who would be the next target?
She commonly uses English attributions like "Darl", "Love" and "Dearie", which for those who don't know her, can be further flummoxing.
It's important to understand that for Nola, while killing isn't a necessity, it's not a pleasure in the way a psychopath would see it. Nola usually makes Deaths she commits quick, and more often than not unquestioned. Torture is not something she enjoys, nor does she get any sort of pleasure from the fear of her victims, relating it to sociopathy which is more emotionally disconnected. She enjoys killing, but only in a very detached sense. Her roles in the Union seem to be related to spying and scouting, this may be a new assignment she was given since the Union had to lay low for a while, or a personal choice to see how she managed without a bloodbath.
Sped Cookiedoe
Species: Tabby
IQ: 148
Origin: St. Albans
Gender: Male
Sven appears only once in the game, jumping backward into a blaze. He's supposedly a crazy sort, much like Pep... his love for Red Cordial supposedly even exceeded both of his sons. While his first name is never actually mentioned in the game, he is referenced a lot. Being the catalyst for a revolutionary group feared by the Lichlord, he's had little trouble finding opposition, and allies with it.
Slippy
Species: Unknown
IQ: ???
Origin: Unknown
Gender: Presumably Male
Only mentioned from time to time, Slippy is funnily enough, one of those "Slippery" characters whom you never see on screen, and who has no concrete dialogue. He may not even be a cat. Nola seems to get annoyed by him fairly easily, as evidenced when addressing him through console.
Esperia Frostwhisper
Species: Dark Seraph
IQ: ???
Origin: Heldath
Gender: Female
Basically she's the Nola of the villains. Though she leans towards a more psychopathic route, making several intricate mentions of how she would kill her targets. Esperia also unlike Nola, seems to be much easier to annoy, and could possibly suffer from Bipolar disorder. Though it's more likely she acts that way as a method of intimidation. Of her powers, she has some nasty blue fiery abilities, and upon her second phase she reveals her real form, a Dark Seraph, she may actually be quite close to Seradath, from the wings to her bright blue eyes... not to mention her numerous mentions in other games.
Her most formidable power is arguably her Flames of hatred, a nova like attack that can only be avoided by either standing on one of the blue davids stars in her arena or moving outside of the grounding obelisks. She also seems to possess an ability to put people in a daze or stupor of sorts, which seems to be much more effective on those with less Intelligence, evidenced heavily by the slews of husks of old ones (Or Earthen Humans) drained and seen in one of the tents beside her tower. Someone volatile and conscious like Nola was easily able to break from it after five seconds or so, which wasn't enough time to drain her soul, so she teleported the spymistress to a cell, instead-- probably with the intention of draining her later.
Saxxis
Species: Maine Coon
IQ: ???
Origin: Glasgow
Gender: Male
Saxxis is a dangerous necromancer, he was given the offer for transformation, though refused for reasons unknown. He is documented as cruel, unsympathetic and obsessed with order and routine. He also shows eccentric distaste in color clashing, and seems to go off the deep end when his fashion sense is offended.
He is the only boss which transforms at the start of a battle, and it's assume that his armor is not of a transmogrified sort, and he just puts it on like a Knight would.
He is one of Naxon's loyal followers, and his devotion has been evidently rewarded. He has the same ability to swoop that his four minions do, and can summon Sappers on command. He is also able to resurrect his minions. The name was inspired from the Saxons, and he has an origin to suit.
Warth'og
Species: Dread Pig
IQ: ???
Origin: Who even wants to know?
Gender: Male
When given the choice, he chose to be transformed into a Dread Pig, and he embraced it with fidelity. This allowed him to make full use of the transformation, making him tower over most high rise buildings, and enough physical strength to entirely shatter them. Warth'og's main weakness is his stamina, which Pep and his allies exploit to tired him out until they find his second big weakness. Just above his eyes are temples. Given the pressure from all of his forehead blubber and being at the peak of his gravitational setback, they're very sensitive.
Warth'og's personality is vile, cunning, sadistic and psychopathic... often demanding a squeal from his victims. Playing around with their corpses or bodies, yeah basically he's one sick twisted piggy. His savagery and brutality was quickly noticed by Naxon, who rewarded him not only with his power, but as second in command of the Naxonites.
A lot of his inspiration comes from Mannoroth the Destructor of Warcraft fame. His name is a blackdeath wordplay on Wart Hog.
Highlord Naxon of the Lichen
Species: Lich Lord
IQ: ???
Origin: Heldath
Gender: Male
Naxon is the elusive and enigmatic antagonist of the game, he seems for the most part, to be the lesser of his evils. When confronted he's almost inspiring and says for the heroes not to let their losses be in vain, and contemplates it may be them who would eventually defeat him.
He's arguably the most challenging boss is the game, and becomes more powerful the closer he comes to death. He also takes half damage from all weapons, and the Nighttime Negotiator does no damage to him at all.
He has several formidable powers, he can summon eight Orbs of Annihilation, (Basically he has a more powerful Nighttime Negotiator than you do) and has an Illuminati symbol cast a sonic eruption from a distance, in a similar vain to Impetuous Susurration's Warship. Both of these attacks become more threatening in his later phases, at 2/3rd's Health he casts Orbs of Annihilation every 80 frames instead of every 120 frames (1 and 1/fifth seconds rather than 2 seconds) and Sonic Eruption covers more of the area, in phase three (1/3rd Health and below) his fight becomes very intense, Orbs of Annihilation are cast every 40 frames (2/3rd's of a second) and his sonic eruption covers all but one row of the arena. In his second phase he summons blue meteors that while many, are fairly slow and easy to avoid, in the third phase these become much faster, and can quickly overwhelm you. His fight is an intense rush. I find myself using the Lich Reaper, since it does decent damage and can be used outside of the range of his Orbs, kiting him around the arena while avoiding the sonic eruptions and some meteors is an ideal way to deal with him. It also is fairly symbolic to kill him only with the "Lich Reaper", don't you think? Especially considering he uses a scythe himself.
Naxon has like Esperia, been mentioned in other games, and can even be spoken to on a more friendly level in Hellcat.

Aren't they cute when they get Disgruntled, geddit, Grunt? Hue. These jokes write themselves.
Animated Sprites, like, sort of. JUST LOOK.
She's got some issues, this woman.
Well good for you Pep.
Whenever I read this all I can think of is the similar commentary given by the error voice in Dungeons of Dredmor.
Nighttime Negotiator VS Sappers.
Did I mention we have flavor text for just about anything, no? Well yeah, polish errywhere!
Midnight Murderer introduces herself.
She says stuff...
Lady Esperia's boss fight, the second bar which is currently untouchable is able to be damaged upon her first being depleted, collectively giving her 450 HP. (300 Second phase, 150 first, each shotgun shot deals 10, giving her effectively 45 hits ~ath.
If you were wondering, yes, this was originally an MSpaint drawing (it may look vaguely familiar if you've played Hellcat), I just enhanced it in photoshop to hide that as much as I could. Also the face is different since I don't believe I want to carry on with the slashed eye jack noir shtick much anymore, also that's a different Dark Seraph known as "Anathema".
Nola has her sweet silent revenge.
Pep gets his snoop on. If you know what he's saying. (He's saying he is totally snooping in on a conversation.)
Nola apparently has no happiness in her life.

Q: Do you realize you could have charged people for this, like it's using nothing under creative commons outside of commissions that you've payed the license for, right?
A: Absolutely, but that goes against our philosophy.
Q: What do you think suffered the most for the given time limit?
A: My sleep and sanity.
Q: What do you feel most proud of in the end result?
A: Overall aesthetic, it's very much in that surreal psychedelic tone Intelligence was praised for, but even more so. In fact I feel like I missed a good opportunity to include the Epilepsy warning I presented for most of Menagerie's big videos.
Q: Who was your favorite character to develop?
A: Honestly, I'd have to say Nola. Pep was already fairly developed, and Sven wasn't difficult since he serves as the laid back calm adviser. Nola was interesting because she had a playful side combined with a history of murder. She was also female, which I always find more fun to write.
I also really liked how most of her facial expressions came out, despite being in MSpaint. At first I struggled with "How do I make a cat feminine?" but then I remembered how I redid Tristy to look more feminine, and applied similar tactics. I wanted to incorporate that look Bombay's get with the glowing gold eyes against midnight pitch, and I think I pulled that off well.
Also, since it was an entirely new direction for the character since a while ago, and a direction I was pretty new to, it was really involved and I got attached to the sassy lassy sociopath and her quips pretty quickly. I'm not sure if I portrayed a sociopath realistically since they are fairly detached and Nola shows a fair bit of affection, in either an intimidating or a caring manner. That she was aware of it might be against conduct, too.
I don't know any sociopaths, I'm sorry!
Q: What boss did you feel got the most love, and then conversely, the least?
A: I think Warth'og definitely got the prize pig (hue i so funneh) for boss design, two fights and several over-complicated attacks, though I like how Naxon's turned out more. Saxxis was definitely the most slap-dashed and sloppy. But it suited him well as a necromancer.
Q: Ugh, Pep again?
A: He's only been in one game before, and a seriously out of date one. Contrary to what FFXIII would like you to think, games that are essentially movies are not what we count as games here at the CCC.
Q: Who made the awesome standing kitty sprites?
A: How hard is it to read the credits? Pjcr, though... since you asked so nicely!
Q: Was this inspired from V for Vendetta?
A: A little, honestly I think it's more rooted in the Heretic inspiration now.
Q: Why cats?
A: Why not? Pep's a character I can draw with efficiency, even when in high quality renders because he is a character I draw a fair bit and his design is for the most part fairly simple, when compared to Fyori and her complicated outfit anyway. Also I just think cats are great.
Q: Pep seems a little different in character to the red-raving douchenozzle in Intelligence. Is there an explanation or is it just the age of which each was written?
A: While Intelligence's public build is dated, even in the preview videos with recent writing he's much more impulsive and moody than he is in this game, that said I do have an explanation for you. Pep would be younger in this game, much less afar from morals than he is in Intelligence. In Intelligence it's quite evident he doesn't have much morality left, and there's fairly good reason for that which sadly, I had to cut out due to the shrinking window of time for this project, I may make an expansion though which better fills in the story. Or I may just leave it until Intelligence 2D.
He's noticeably more erratic and carefree late game, especially when interacting with polish (like all the wine cupboards in Warth'og's room) because throughout the whole game he does grow a fair bit, albeit in a weird sub-mammal way that most wouldn't and gets closer to the red Intel smartmouth fuzzball we know and love in Stages 3-4.
Q: The Sty is very small, was it going to be bigger but had to be cut short due to deadline?
A: Yeah, originally that building was just gonna be a highrise, when you entered you'd go down to ground level, and see some possibly familiar scenery and locate the actual Pig Sty seen in the Red Rapscallion webcomic, but yes, you guessed right, ran out of time for that. If I do an expansion, it will be to add on that which should be, but couldn't be. Right now though, even though I missed the deadline, I just felt this needed to see the worlds eyes.
Q: A lot of the enemies are in your MSpaint style, but then Esperia and Naxon are in a really different wobbly-lined style, was your plan to make this an artistically improved project?
A: Yes, It was indeed going to be a chance to hone the Sai style and that was accomplished somewhat, however again, due to mounting pressure and time, I just had to do what I could. Nola is also in MSpaint, though it might be difficult to tell at first since she's got a coloring style which conceals the jaggies pretty well.
Q: Is this based on the webcomic you made on the MSPA forums?
A: Very loosely, Nola's character has changed completely from that point, and its plot is very non-canonical in the webcomic because there are variables in place now that I couldn't account for back then. The comic was also cancelled due to limitations on my free time and I feel it'd be a lost cause to pick it back up now that this game exists. I will probably bump the thread with a link though because it did generate some genuine interest and I was sad I had to discontinue it.
Q: That fork on Naxon's chest looks SORTA FAMILIAR.
A: Good catch. I like you.
Q: I have a question, too!
A: Awesome, respond and I'll throw it up here along with my answer. Cheers!
