PC running slow

Hey,
A few months ago my computer started acting up it went about twice as slow and internet and games struggle to pop up.
All games have been deleted and no new programs have been put out my computer it also gets a scan every second day.
My Specs are:
160gb, 3gb SATA harddrive
1gb ram
NVIDIA 6150e
Does anyone know the reason?

No never have im also running on vista
this problem gets to annoying sometimes like it would freeze even when a program just opens up eg. when i open photoshop cs3.
Also the computer is a bit dust so if i clean it you reckon it will make a difference

The you should Degrag now Lol, Degrag makes the pc run faster.

If the pc is dusty, it might be the CPU Overheating and stop working, I advice to clean it ASAP.

Do you have an antivirus program? Mine, AVG, seems to want to check every file in any folder I open before it will show. Slows don't browsing on my own computer's HDDs by quite a lot.

And remember, Vista's Explorer.exe is highly unstable. So if it locks up, it is more than likle Explorer...

Explorer.exe is going to crash on any Vista computer regardless of specs. I have a 2.6 GHz Dual Core with 2GB RAM and a GeForce 9800 GT with 1GB GDDR3, which isn't amazing but gets the job done. Needless to say, my explorer.exe crashes and freezes often. I don't defrag as much as I should, but that more than likely has nothing to do with it.

I have a 3ghz dual core on vista 64 4GB of RAM and a 8800GT and Vista never crashes for me. And its nothing to do with my specs.

Vista also automatically defrags weekly, without you having to schedule it, so its not that. I would suggest picking up an antivirus, like AVG and letting that sweep your system. Also telling us your processor would help.

One more thing, have you installed any bloated programs that start up with your PC, like Limewire, iTunes, or Norton/Kaspersky AVs. I've never ran that piece of crap on my PC (Limewire) but I know its responsible for a lot of my friends PC runnin like a cockroah through a wall of crap. Slow and Bloated.

First To get more speed first go to Start->Run->type ms config,it will give you window ,now select start up tab,now here uncheck unnecessary processes. In Second delete all temporary files and registries from your pc.Use always updated anti-virus and scan pc at-least once in month.
