pc games for the outdated machine :P

i'm not a 'computer guy'. my computer was bought when windows 2000 was 'new'. i've never upgraded it.. because its primarily just used for music and the internet.

the benchmark i use to compare where a game is playable on my machine is if it's not more demanding than the elder scrolls 3 morrowind (which plays kinda laggy - but still at a playable pace). i only have like 250-something RAM, a 860mhz processor.. and my graphic card i have no idea about.. nvidia tnt2 or some shit. lol that's all 200$ will get you i suppose xD

anyway, i'm sure that theres been good pc games since back in the day. whats some some old games thatll probably run on this piece of shit?

Awesome Bro

When I had a system of similar specs I played games such as:

  • Unreal Tournament (Still do)
  • Age of Empires 1 & 2
  • Command & Conquer Red Alert
  • Half-Life (Still do)
  • Counterstrike (Still do)
  • Magic movie maker :x

I'm assuming that because we are on an RPG orientated forum you're after RPG style games. But I thought I'd share anyway :p

Half-Life 2 will likely run as well. It can run on almost anything.

You could probably take about 400$ and upgrade to something fairly decent.

I've heard battlezone 2 is worth a go. I've never played it, but my friend with a shitty computer raves on and on about it.

If you're into RPGs (this is an rpg forum so if you're not what the hell are you doing here) then your machine could probably handle diablo 2.

All of valve's pre-source stuff (half life, cs, dod, tfc etc etc) should handle fine. I was even running source stuff (given it was like a snail) on a machine similar to yours, though I wouldn't recomend that as looking back it was more hassle than it was worth.

almost any of the old 2D strategy/ empire-building, adventure, and puzzle games

such as Age of wonders, myst, rollercoaster tycoon

i love the tycoon/empire games. i'll have to try civilization 2 or 3 (tbh 2 looks better due to the huge amount of expansions).

thanks for the recommendations, i'll definitely look into them (after all, i've got nothing else to do with my time).
if anyone else has any, let me know =D

btw i think i played starcraft.. and i think it was too god damn hard. :l

Civ III has MUCH more content than 2 in the end, from what I remember, because a lot of 2's content was in 3 to begin with.

I'll tell you the games I have on my laptop, which I should mention runs Morrowind, thought it's sorta laggy, which should work great for you.

Age of Empires I, II
Rise of Nations
Civ III
Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds
Command and Conquer: Red Alert
Half-Life
Arcanum
Septerra Core
SimTheme Park
Theme Hospital
Diablo II

I, personally, couldn't live without Arcanum (Hundreds of hours of gameplay, btw), Civ III (even more - I've played that game for almost 24 hours straight with a buddy once, before we saved and finished the game the next day) and Red Alert

Pretty much any of the Star Wars games from Galactic Battlegrounds and back will work on any machine.  There's also Worms Armageddon, and the updated 2007 version should work as well.  Also the Final Fantasy games that were released for PC should work too; I don't think there were any issues with Windows 2000.  Also, needs to be said again: Diablo, Diablo II + Expansion (maybe), Starcraft + Expansion, pretty much any Warcraft...

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. :x

Atemu, is it a coincidence that you have about every single game I used to play?

Also, Command and Conquer is awesome for an old PC.

You can find the FF's (7, 8, 9) around somewhere and they work pretty good. Also try a little game called Septerra Core, its pretty fun.
