Patching program?

I am planning to release my game in patches (which I call chapters) and I simply do not like the usual method of pasting over the old folder. Does anybody know if a patching program exists? Even better if it has options for which file, and folder to replace the original with and if it's actually made for RM.

Yeyinde made a patching script for RPGVX which does almost exactly what you want. The only feature that has not been implemented is the patching of audio files. Only graphics and data can be patched.

I'm sure you can quickly find it by using the search engine on this forum.

If you're working on XP then maybe someone has converted the script for it if you're lucky. I'm working on one myself but it won't be released anytime soon.

Hope it helps!

My VX script is still available, http://dl.dropbox.com/u/337225/patcher2.html, and I'm in the planning bits of making a standalone program for both VX and XP. The standalone program won't require any scripts to be added to your game, since it will directly modify the files. I'm also thinking of getting it to patch the encrypted archive, with support for the changed magic key DLL hack.

That's great to hear Yeyinde, I can't wait to see this program. As it could work for chapters (updates, whatever...) could this also work in a standard method, such as dlc for a game? I figured it does something like check the .rx files side to side (the old, the new) and if it finds any differences (usually new ones, I guess omitted/removed ones are possible too), it modifies the file to include those changes?

This is really awesome. If this is possible, then a lot of people producing the so-called "tech-demo" showing the process of working on the project will thank you, Yeyinde. I will wait for news.
