Parameters includes Atk and defence?

Is there a way with the either a script or script call to increase ATk, PDEF, or MDEF permently of a character without using weapons or armor. I want the command to be like the event parameter increase. Kinda like: '$game_party.actor[1].ATK += 2' and then party actor 1 would have increased ATK permently. (I am not good with scripting at all.)
