Panda's Template

If I finish it I'll come up with a better name for it xD
Anyway, I decided to do some non-HKCP work today(don't worry, I'll get back to them windows soon ^_^) so I opened up GraphicsGale and just started drawing.
The end result, a template. Not the best in the world(only took like 20 minutes tops and I wasn't really payin attention to what I was doing) but I actually kinda like it.

Examples! ^_^

LARGER IMAGE(BATTLER? FACESET? PICTURE? Idk use it for whatever it can be used for xD)

Although it MIGHT look better Anti-Aliased... but I'm not sure since I have no idea how to do it XD

Comments and Criticism would be lovely ^_^

For this template the first one looks better imo, but you have to pay attention to the angle as well because right now this wont fit with any chipset at all.

It will also be a pain to sprite on because the arms are way too thin and close to his body, same thing for the feet (no legs).

Thanks for the comments!
Actually the lack of legs and the arms being odd don't make it hard at all ^_^
I posted up an example I threw together quickly.
Also with the angle causing chipset incompatibility, I don't believe there are any available Cel-Shaded tilesets yet, so if I were to use it for anything I'd need to make completely custom tiles anyways, so it really doesn't matter that it doesn't fit with the currently available tilesets.

Sorry i actually meant that i wont go with a top down style tileset if that's what you are thinking of going for.
Well all that matters is that it works for you man ^^

Oh..umm I actually hadn't even thought of tilesets yet, I was really just doing this out of boredom xD But I see what you're saying and thanks! I'll make sure to keep that in mind if I decide to do any tiles eventually. What perspective WOULD I need to do the tilesets though?

Edit:
Did the standing positions for the other views.
My 2nd question now is am I Cel-Shading correctly?
Also, on the right-facing frame am I allowed to just mirror it like normal or do I need to reshade it so the shadows are on the right?

It's Cel-Shaded, so it gets an extra black outline around it to add to the cartoonyness of it.
See:http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/1640/outlinesdx3.png[/IMGZOOM]

#1:Current Sprite, regular outline with a black border around the edge.
#2: JUST the black outline
#3: JUST the regular outline
Only #1 is properly Cel-Shaded(and imo look the best)
It's just the style I've decided to use.

Edit: Accidently used the wrong image, fixed.

Edit2: Tried to animate it, but I usually suck at animating things so I'm sure there'll be SOMETHING wrong with it. C&C Please?

I thought J-street was the panda guy?

Anyhow, the cel-shadedness is cool, but seriously the outline of it is really thick and seems kind of unnecessary.  Also I don't know if its just me, but the side-views of the sprite look kind of...blocky?  Like...wood.  Maybe it's just me.  It just doesn't look right.

Well there's room for 2 panda lovers here right?
...
right?
...
Damn it I better get a new dueling pistol...>.<

These are all my outline options.
#1 Is Cel-Shaded correctly, the current sprite.
#2 Uses a completely black outline
#3 Uses no black outlines
and #4 Uses the black outline ONLY around the border.

Now, I personally think #1 looks the best, and I'm really trying to Cel-Shade properly as best I can. Another member here, J.D.Slasha, uses  the same style. Look at his sprite:

Same bulky black double outline, it's just the style, and so to maintain the Cel-Shadedness I'd say it IS necessary.(although he didn't really Cel-Shade the skin, ignore that XP)
The side view is a bit blocky now that I look at it again, I'll round off the feet better and see if I can make the arms less square as well(though it's not easy when they need to be only 1 pixel thick XP), that should fix it  ^_^

This is cute. I don't think the thick black outlines work all that well with such a small sprite. When I look at the other three versions you did, I can easily say that the least attractive one is the one with a double outline.

Wait...is he standing? I was under the impression he was sitting. :/ I thought the brown shoes were the colour of his pants and he was sitting cross-legged.

Anyway, yeah, it's pretty cute, kind of like Breeze. I don't like the shape of his head though...seems kind of like an octagon to me, especially the sides of his face. I think it'd look a bit better if you curved them a bit.

Well I think #2 looks the best.  But everyone's entitled to their opinion.  It's still a pretty cool template nevertheless.

Thanks for the comments everyone!
I fixed up two issues with the template.
First I got rid of the heavy outline. I still left the black around the edges to at least make it noticeably Cel-Shaded but it's a single outline now, not a double. Everyone hated it and after looking at some examples of other Cel-Shaded sprites I noticed most of them only used the single outline anyways.
Second, I rounded off the head a bit more. Thanks Dadevster for pointing that out!
And yes it's standing xD The template's kind of different.. I decided to make it more fun and cartoony and just kinda threw realism out the window. It seemed like an awesome idea but I'm now finding out it's making tilesetting aggravating.
How do you make a chair for something with no legs? XD

Edit: Added examples! This is surprisingly EXTREMELY easy to sprite on ^_^

Update, I just got bored and drew up a large version of the template. It could be used to make a battler, menu picture, maybe even a faceset? I dunno, use your imagination, I didn't really have a use for it in mind when I made it.
But I'm thinking something that big should probably have anti-aliasing to smooth it out, I'm just not sure how to do it xD Anyone know how? Or is it just a bad idea all together?

I think that it is good for side-scroller games because of it's view. So if you happened to make or edit something similar to Super Mario Bros (the SNES version) it would work well with something like that. But then again there is no script for something like that but if it ever did, this would work neatly with that.

I have a decent side-scroller game script for rmxp, I found it a REALLY long time ago. Not sure who made it though so I'd have to do some searching if I ever wanted to use or share it.
The template was actually intended to work with normal tilesets but I guess I kinda screwed it up and since I'm not sure how to fix I'll just leave it as is for now. It's nice to have a nice side view template besides the T.A.T.A. anyways ^_^

But I'd really like to also make this usable for anyone who doesn't feel like scripting a side scrolling script, so if anyone knows how I can fix it and still keep the cute Cel-Shadedish style(and not have to completely remake it) please lemme know ^_^
