Overclocking

I've got a bit of a slow processor and because I don't feel like buying a new one I'm thinking about overclocking it.
(Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz)

I've done some searching and it turns out this processor can easily make it to 3GHz
One small problem though, I don't have any experience in overclocking...
So I was wondering if you guys could give me a bit of advice about whether I should do it or not.
Also, I found an article on ehow.com which explains how to overclock my processor but I'd like to know if it's any good because as I said before I don't know anything about this stuff.

Well the best way to do it, is not to jump straight from 2.0GHz to 3.0GHz, but go from like, 2.0 to 2.2, try it for like an hour, see if you can stress it, if it still runs fine, bump it up to 2.4, and so on until you've got your desired result, if you get to a point, for example 3.0GHz, and it's not performing too well, your computer is shutting down etc. then I'd suggest knocking it down to the last point where it worked fine.

Thanks for the tip, it will take a while to do it in small steps but at least it'll be a lot safer.
I was also wondering; what would happen if I manage to destroy my entire processor? (I know the chance of that happening is small but it's still possible :P)
I'm guessing I can simply buy a new processor then, or will it wreck my entire computer?

Well usually it'll just be the processor that dies, in which case you can just but a new processor for it anyway, I managed to kill the processor on one of my old computers by overclocking without taking steady steps, and didn't notice any damage to anything else, just the processor needed replacing, although I guess there's always the chance that something else could die along with it.
