On The Brink of Death

I've been composing ALOT lately... and I just finished up a boss theme for a project I'm working on. It's very melodically complex, and I'm a bit worried that this has too many musical ideas all packed into one song... but I have that curse that most people who write music have, that they can't accurately judge their own work because they become so immersed in it. So tell me what you think:

On The Brink of Death

And if anyone wants to use it in their project, then this OGG file loops much better than an Mp3 in RMXP, so use this:

OGG Version

It was inspired by the boss theme from FFXII, Clash of Swords, if anyone's wondering.

This is the same title from a song in Chrono Cross. If you've ever played it, right before you fight it has the song "On the Brink of Death"

I wish I could give a better crit than "Good" or "Better than I could do" but I'm not really up to scratch on my musical terms.

Anyways, keep it up.

@Djzalzer: Oh whoops! I didn't realize that... I've never played Chrono Cross, only Chrono Trigger so I wouldn't know. Ehh... Well, I might as well post this over at Sakari Infinity where I can actually get a musical critique I guess. And maybe I should ask a mod to change the title once I come up with a new one.

@Shadowfox: Well, the Phrygian Dominant Mode/Harmonic Minor tends to sound like that... I figured in an orchestral setting it'd be less that way, but I guess it didn't turn out that way.

Pleasant to listen to, but I'd agree with you in terms of a lot of musical variations to one piece. For a split second, I thought that it was 3 short songs put together. However, the flow is nice, so it's not necessarily a bad thing. I can see it used for a desert-type boss. But I can also see it evolving into 3 distinct songs :)

About the only thing I'd change is the end of the song. I can see that it was meant to loop, but the transition is so brief and abrupt that the two parts almost don't tie in together. Perhaps just a few more seconds for the transition would smoothe the loop.

My 2c anyway :*)

i can really imagine this as a boss fight theme... i like it.. but thats just me i like the end of it (no, im not being smart.) the melody at the end that is.
