Old game/console commercials you remember and love.

Out of nowhere I began to recall a TV commercial for the Gameboy Pocket, the time Nintendo started trying to make better hand-held consoles with the gimmick of "same old shit only slimmer and better!"

To describe it, the original, fatty gameboy was going through this factory, where it was smashed several and painted into a slim, compact little red gameboy, then it displayed all the different colors to choose from. Thus the advertisement of the Gameboy pocket was born. :D Yes, I was a sucker for that kind of stuff, which is why I have every old gameboy console except for SP and micro(?).

So what is this topic about? Describe some old video game commercials you've seen growing up, I'm talking about those BEFORE the year 2000 by the way. You can also describe your reaction at the time, where you amazed to see 3D graphics the first time or what?

aside from the old old NES/xelda commercial on youtube (which is undeniably fucking cheesy and horrible), i only remember the FF7 commercial and thinking 'when was there even a ff1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6?'. i didn't play rpgs as a kid (and what do you know, i still dont). i remember a vector man commercial too... a 'rockos modern life:spunkys dangerous day' commercial.. umm.. thats about it really. i never watched tv much cause i was too busy playing games :P

Kirby's Dreamland had this awfully animated commercial where he sucks up this buff guy and spits him out which explained the game's entire gameplay.

Dr. Mario for the NES had that witchdoctor song and this scary image of a shrunken head.  I never bought that game.

Yoshi's Island had a particularly memorable commercial where this fat guy eats everything in a restaurant, licks a thing of whipped cream, then explodes.

Battletoads and Double Dragon had a really dumb commercial but it was the few that actually showed more than 2 seconds of gameplay.

Aladdin for the genesis had a pretty badass commercial given that it was a badass game (why can't there be more cool Disney games?).

I sort of remember a Rocket Knight Adventures commercial... the details are foggy, though.

I can.

They both were about showing off purty CGI cinematics even though both games looked like horseshit.

FF7 even had the audacity of putting "NOT COMING TO THEATERS LOLZ" after the cinematic jerkfest.  I'm sure the marketing execs were proud that they raked in so much dough from the handful of CGI videos that are interspersed throughout the game itself.

They used to make video game commercials? The first one I ever saw was the Gears of War, a few years ago :(

Oh wait...come to think of it, a Star Fox commercial seems to ring a bell. I'll have to YouTubesearch it.
