Eventing_Guy

Awesome Bro

not a dos game ... but neither was AoE or Firefly's Stronghold lol
idk

was there a theme?? like was it modern-day or ancient or underwater or???

oh, right! it took place around 1492, because you were trying to find a new world to colonize, hence breaking free of the motherland. i'm pretty sure that all the races you could be were french, british, natives, russian and italian.

as for the pictures, i don't think drawing will work at all (besides the fact it would be all stick figures, anwyay..). all i remember is what the graphics looked like and i don't remember the UI at all, so.. i don't think drawing would help at all.

another piece of info i forgot is, i had this during windows 3.1 days.. so there's also the potential that it was windows 3.1 instead of dos.

thanks all for the help, but i'm thinking this is a lost cause unless i can figure out how to draw and remember the UI.

are ... are you sure it wasn't age of empires?
that wasn't available on DOS but boy it sounds like the 1st AoE.

how many years ago were you playing it?

another idea ...

the settlers? ("serf city")
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Settlers_(video_game)
there's been a lot of them but the series isn't well-known in the US ... look into I, II, or III

no, it's not any of those :-/ however, age of empires is the closest.. i had to have been.. between 13-15 because it was before my stepdad came around. so, about 10-13 years ago

no, it's not that because there were never territories (countries or provinces or etc), it was just a big, randomly generated world every game :-/

Off-topic but that game is fucking beautiful considering the resolution.
Yeah, the art is slick. I've been playing an open-source version with "updated" graphics that aren't as artistic, but the interface is SO much more functional, so I recommend it.

But yeah, no, if it's not Colonization, I have no idea.

At times like this, I have trouble finding names of old games, but since I've had luck in the past. I'll give it a go, even if I doubt that I can find it when you couldn't. Conquest of The New World it has all what you're looking for and the deluxe version was released in 1996. Here's the link: http://www.classic-pc-games.com/pc/stra ... ition.html

Conquest of the New World is an enhanced version of the original colonization game Conquest of the New World. The game will have you controlling one of six nations. You will compete against the other nations as you try to conquer a continent. You can either play the part of the Frech, the Dutch, Spanish, the Portuguese or Natives of the continent.
The game is turn-based and you will go against enemy troops and try to kill them or capture their flags as you expand your colony.

At the start of the game, you will find your self landing on a piece of land. You will have to explore the land and build your colony. As you discover different types of land formations such as valleys and mountains, you can name these mountains and gain credit for discovering them.
The game gas amazing graphics and the landscapes are done with such great details. The interface is easily manageable and it’s easy to play and control the game. When you build your colony, there will be a Colony Centre. Around this colony centre, you can build all the other buildings that you need to maintain the colony. You need to mine gold, metal and other gems to gain resources for your colony. The whole idea of the game is to find a settlement area where you can get these resources as well as grow crops. The area should also be conducive to expanding your colony. If you do things right, not only will your colony grow in terms of the inhabitants but your economy will also grow so that it will be able to support expansions. You will have the opportunity to build farms, houses, churches and other infrastructures that are needed to ensure the success of the colony.
An essential part of the game is still to create a military force and to ensure that the military force is able to protect your colony. The military forces will also be the main driving force behind your colony’s expansion. The battles brought forth by your expansion efforts are done in a board with grids. This is where the strategy part of the game comes in. You need to make sure you are making the right moves in terms of toppling over your enemy forces.
Aside from engaging in battles, you can also form trade alliances which can be helpful to your colony’s economy. The game has enough elements to keep even the most experienced gamers interested for a long time.

When I looked up these terms "old dos colony games fight against motherland" this was the first game, along with "colonization" by sid meiers.

...

oh, my god. you found it. you really, really found it. holy friggin crap.

thank you so much! i completely forgot about the battle mode and naming of landmarks, too.. oh man you just made my day. thanks so much!

how can i repay you?? i don't do anything special :(

:shades: Yeah, I had more to go on than the games "I" was looking up cause they were older and .. such. (^_^) It's nice to know that I helped someone. (._.) I'm still trying to find a math game for my brother that even a math teacher had trouble with for DOS.
