Oil painting portrait

For the past couple of weeks in my art class we've been working on oil paintings. I'd never worked with oil prior to November but I'm pretty happy with how my painting's turning out so far. It's not quite done yet (the hand, mask and lips need work, as well as a few finishing touches elsewhere) but it's definitely getting there, I think.

I need some comments as to what you guys think should be modified before I have to hand it in on Monday.

It's intentionally supposed to look deformed, by the way. It's actually not my picture - I'm basing it off of another painting I got from DeviantArt.

the shine from the camera messes it up a bit

Tell me what you think of it so far.

that looks pretty damn great, tbh. the only weird thing for me is that the eyebrow is thick enough that obscured by the mask-ish thing as it is, it looks a little like it follows into a unibrow. I'm a little confused about the shadow under the nose, but I might just be looking at it wrong.

also the iris isn't entirely circular, but these are really minor complaints. it looks good, man. I'd tell you to be careful about adapting pieces from stuff you've seen on deviantart, but you probably already know this and are showing discretion.

the blending is very nice. i always have a hard time with oil paints. the eye on the left bothers the hell out of me though, the highlights look sloppy. the eye on the right appears to be looking two directions at once with the off-center pupil but that's kind of neat too IMO. you got sloppy with the background black paint around the edges in some places though it's not hugely noticeable. it's very interesting in any case :)

The shadow underneath the nose was bugging me for a long time, and I must have redone it at least four times by now. I see what yoiu mean about it looking off - I sort of copied it wrong off the original and it looked out of place. I lightened it up a lot so it (hopefully) looks a lot less out of place. I hadn't even noticed that about the eyebrow, actually, but I see what you're talking about. I'll see about modifying it so that the eyebrow doesn't look so long.

Yeah, I have a lot of work to do on the right eye. I've been really sloppy with a lot of areas, like the background you mentioned. That's probably a result of me not paying attention, and taking fifteen minute naps in between thirty minute painting spurts. @_@

Thanks for the comments. I'll be glad when I finish this sucker - 10 hours is ENOUGH. :|
