so uh for the past few days my computer's been sketchy about displaying websites. youtube, google, and anything hosted on photobucket (as well as the site itself) are completely blocked off. the browser pretends it's loading, but doesn't make any progress. I have made attempts on both Firefox 3.5, where I first noticed the problem, and Internet Explorer 8 (I think,) which was able to display three pages on youtube before jamming up indefinitely like Firefox. I've just today scanned my computer with (ugh) AVG, coming up with a relatively clean bill of health. what's the matter?

have any connection type changes been made in the recent past?
have a look in your internet settings under the connections tab and make sure everything is set to automatically detect etc etc

Dump out your cache, clear your history, ect. If that doesn't work, download and install SpyBot Search and Destroy and run it. Then run a virus scan again.

If it still persists after going through the basics, then something's up.

connection type has not changed. even if it had, I'm not sure how that'd affect specific websites while leaving others perfectly accessible.

cleared everything multiple times over the course of this problem. I probably should have included that in my first post, actually.

I'll go w/spybot search and destroy then. I had nod32 on my other computer but it'll take some time getting it onto this one. :\

thanks, bros and brodettas

yeah, no dice. google's working again, but that was a latebreaker. clean bill of health, immunized my browser, but youtube and various image hosts are still being catty with me. thoughts?

Just a thought here, are you using a router? you might need to unplug it for 10sec then plug it back in. I know when that happens to me, reseting the router always works.
again just a thought.

It's possible that your ISP is playing tricks on you. ISPs lately seem to be getting pretty uppity with trying to take control over what can and cannot be viewed. It's possible that they are trying to keep you from visiting high bandwidth sites. Can other computers in your house access the sites?

whatever the problem was, it seems to be gone now. either the solution took a while to take or I'm just magic.

I kind of feel like a munchhausen's dude now but whatever there was a problem but it's disappeared, probably thanks to the advice in this thread and just delayed for some reason. thanks!
