Oh shit, Dopples needs help!

I won't bore you with the rest of the large map, since it's for the most part unrelated to my problem. Incase you couldn't tell, I'm trying to make a cliff side. However, due to RMVX's auto-shadowing, I'm having issues making it look like a natural cliff side. I need to make it so the auto-shadowing doesn't fuck with passable tiles, and yet makes it so that I don't have to add those roof-tiles, since that makes the whole thing seem man made.

Long story short, I need an example of a good cliffside, or someone who can tell me how to make one that doesn't suck. Anyone up for it?

Short of making a new tileset, I can't really think of a way to make it realistic or not man-made, but if it helps, you could add shadows to the side of the cliffs so that there isn't just a shadow on the ground and not on the adjacent cliffs.  The proper shadow tiles should be on the 9th row of the 3rd column of Tile B.  Other than that... sorry.

It should look more like this afterwards.

Yeah, I figured that's what you meant, but I don't really see any way to make it seem natural.  I'd honestly just use XP, since VX is aimed more at oldschool, block-style RPGs.  Other than that, you're probably just going to have to find/make some cliff edge tileset add-ons.

Eh, VX is better for what my needs are, so I think I'll add some story elements explaining it. Thanks anyways.

easy way to go around that also would be to put things on the cliff tiles... things like rocks and stuff, especially around the top and bottom of it.  it draws the players eye ^_^  Also, you just need to get past the fact that that is what they look like and not constantly compare it to RMXP.

I used to do that, and once I got past that little thing, it was WAY easier to map everything and since everything is in that style... well, it doesn't look out of place. ^_^

Hmm, couldn't you try turning the whole autotile into regular tiles (adding them into one of the tilesets) and just place them on the map manually? That would get rid of the shadow problem.
