i back up my work every couple of day because im paranoid, but ive been working on this script all day, in fact i allmost had the script perfect only one last bug(that i could find) that i was working out. ive written at least 1000 lines of code today. my computer just crashed and when i rebooted it all my data files for this project(which is just my super awesome world map script) were empty!!!!! gah im so mad i dont even want to write code anymore! this is my baby, my first major script that the community will use for quite some time9at lease i hope, thats why all the time put into it) any ideas how to get the motivation to load my back up and redo 3 days work?

lol thats not a bad idea :P i just checked my back up copy, i lost mouse support, sub section support and like 50 bug fixes. i dont think i can even try fixing this, i love over half the script, im back in the stone age crap time of the script i last backed it up on the 8th i guess

well shit happens. But in the end, you did learn a lot from this, and you have at least grasps on idea on how to redo it. Hell, you would thus probably redo it better when you try again. And you should try again, because giving it up right now makes it even worse- at least if you actually redid the entire thing, man, the time spent wasn't really in vain.

Best thing you could probably do would be to take a brief hiatus from scripting and hop right back onto it in a couple of days with a renowned vigor that will carry you to the end :thumb:

This is why you should use MsWord's autosaving feature and a thumb drive while saving your scripts! It's a good idea, plus it doesn't hurt to also save on thumb drive and computer

Are you using custom code for the mouse script? If you aren't, what script are you using? The reason I ask is because the most commonly used mouse script, found in AWorks, requires quite a bit of stuff you don't need, as well as the fact that its mouse_in_area? code occasionally returns true outside the specified area. If you're in RMXP or RMVX, my script only requires a custom input script (that doesn't break the default one) and will actually have accurate methods that don't return true when they shouldn't.

And, to keep this for being a completely blatant plug for my script, I'll add that you really should never give up on scripting, since that is something unique and useful that might eventually provide you with a job opportunity.

glitch you allways have good advice. im using cybersam's mouse module and a mouse reader script i wrote(that fills in all the holes between my script and cybersams) it is working perfectly right now granted i still need to play test more i havent been able to cause it to crash yet(but my script has aton of features so i who knows what combo of them will make it crash or not)
