Yeah so it was a totall accident...I dropped this Toshiba P20 and the left corner has a HUGE ass crack in it, as well as blue ink like stuff leaking all over the inside.

Has this ever happened to you? Im thinking of buying a new LCD screen and installing it my self. Whats a good price? 500$? So far thats what Ive seen. Any ideas? =(

I can't say that I've ever dropped a 17" Toshiba P20 resulting in a huge ass crack in the left corner of the LCD screen, no. But that must suck.

I don't know a good price for it, but I suggest with anything like this look around a LOT before buying. Especially if you're buying on the internet, prices can vary drastically between vendors.

Hm, yes you are probably right. I hate the fact that the screen is so large..makes replacing it a lot more expensive.

It covers alot of my screen too which is annoying D: I might post a SS of what it looks like later.

I also heard you can sell cracked screens on Ebay? What could be the use of these? :3

a) Some people might buy something cracked (depending on how badly it is cracked) because it's in a condition better than theirs and they can't afford one that isn't damaged, or
b) I guess some people know how to fix them (maybe not entirely but to a point where it is more useable than what you have).

You can't repair an LCD since it's picture is displayed via pixels instead of scanning like a CRT (which is why LCD's are still unpopular in the PROFESSIONAL world; you can't repair them and they don't accurately produce black).

I don't know if you can sell it. LCD's don't exactly have parts that are worth anything but rich people will buy almost any kind of junk so go ahead and try your luck. As far as prices, $500 for a 19" is a RIP-OFF. LCD prices in big stores like Circuit City and Best Buy will almost always be atleast 30% higher than they should.

Check here or head over to Newegg. My friend bought a 21" LCD for $250 brand new.

I broke my 15" laptop LCD screen with my fist (by accident, too), which is even more annoying and even more expansive to repair... so take that as a relief ^_^

Ooh! Thanks guys! I got a quote from 2 vendors telling me it would cost no less then $700 to replace, and another said $500. Keep in mind, I do live in Canada so prices vary plus theres the US dollar to keep in mind too. Thanks for all the input!!

Even in Canadian currency that's way too much.

Big tip, don't fix LCD screens. It's 10x cheaper to simply replace them. Everytime I get a broken television in the shop I do a quick troubleshoot; if it's something simple like an open resistor or a shorted capicitor I replace it but if there's something wrong with a chip or oscilator I send it back to the factory and order a new one. LCD screens can't be repaired in a conventional way (because you have to repair each individual pixel on the screen) so just do some shopping and buy a new one. A good one shouldn't cost you more than 400 loonies.
