[OFFICIAL] Contest Info & Rules

In short, everything will be moving to the normal boards anyway, this board's just here for stuff to fall into during the contest, if that makes sense (which it probably doesn't). When you come to *actually* submit it, just drop me a PM with the files before the deadline if you haven't publicly posted it already.

o.o omg! I am so going to do this, even if I haven't that active lately. I might not win, but hey, I could use the fun, practice.. *off to finalize graphics *

I guess another bonus is, since we haven't done the ORGy Awards yet, anyone who enters'll also be in with a chance of Game of the Year. :thumb:

Random question! If you're making a sort of demo/intro that you want to extend into a bigger game, would ending your entry for this contest with a "To be continued..." and labeling it as an intro or Part 1 count against you? As long as the section you created is complete as its own game, but the story continues~

I think my OCD got this overlooked. xD

Yeah sure, the points for it being finished etc are more to do with the... I dunno, professionalism I suppose. Unfinished maps, missing graphics, that sort of thing. A game which is just a small part of a bigger game is totally fine, providing the ending actually ended (with a to be continued) rather than just sitting around in nowhere like a lot of demos.

Okay cool! :3 I just wanted to make sure. I have an idea I'm really fond of, but I would only realistically be able to get a small introduction done in time. Thank you! <3

Just to let you know, if you win a prize you don't want, you can either switch with a lower place (if they accept), or give it to somebody else.

Oh, a contest! :D
Maybe I'll make a little game for it, too.

Just to make sure: As soon as my game is completed, I can open up a new thread for it in this forum? Or should I send it to Amy without making a presentation here?

You can make a thread even if it isn't complete. Mine isn't and there is a thread.
When the game is done though be sure to PM it to amy

I don't want to back out. It's still pretty early. But I feel guilty making something for the contest when I should be working on stuff for other people. Plus the prizes are lost on me anyways.
So I've asked sillypieman if he would substitute for me. I don't know if he'll do it.

Sorry guys, I think I've cocked this one up, I was expecting much more interest and publicity about this. I will do my best to promote it elsewhere, but given the low turnout, it's really worth entering - very good chance of winning either copy. Although with nobody posting their games or needing support, community champion is seeming redundant.

It's still January, I will try to get more people involved, I'm just sorry for screwing this one up.

I'm writing up the roundup for the ezine and have nothing to say :(

Heya, I'd like to join in the fray as well!
Got a question, too: am I allowed to submit a game that circumvents some of the limitations of VX Ace Lite?
I paid attention during the installation and registration of Ace Lite, and I wasn't asked to agree anywhere that I'd stay within the bounds they programmed. So technically, it should be legal, right?
And if not, I'm only using a single script edit so far that can easily be reversed :).

I'm not going to make judgement on it (it'd be impossible to enforce anyway) but am open to comments from others if they have complaints. It depends how you broke the limits I guess, as there are many ways of doing so without hacking.

Not to mention the fact that I clearly did the same with Arrays and custom plugins during the Construct 2 contest. I get the impression that the most that can really be enforced is the technical limitations, because that's the most that the engines enforce.

Well, by now my game relies quite a bit on script edits, so I hope it won't be a problem :P.

On a different note, something occurred to me. Contest game threads are allowed to be started anywhere on this site. The downside of this is that the game threads become hard to find. It took me forever to find the thread of Potion's game, for example, and I'm not sure how many more I'm missing. Could a list of links to all contest game threads be compiled and stickied? That way, it becomes easier for people interested in the contest to quickly browse everything that's being built :).

Awesome Bro

I had the same issue trying to show support for other member's projects in my own contest thread. I have the links of supposed contest entrants, but some members who have claimed to enter haven't started a thread at all.
