No Internet = No way?

I'm trying to help out a friend who's also purchase RMXP, and here, I'll just quote them:

Thanks for helping me out. The problem is that I can't
connect to the internet to get the trial version
started. Every time I start the program, an alert pops
up that the program can't connect to the nTitles
server (duh), and then it shuts down. I was hoping
there was some way to bypass the trial serial number
activation by putting in my purchased serial number.
That is, I wanted to put in the purchased serial
number without running the program.

Is there any way to do this? Thank you very much for help! :D

He doesn't have internet on that computer to begin with, so connecting to the nTitles server is impossible, no matter what.

I re-read my post, and noticed I hadn't made that too clear, my apologies.
I thought the title would get that across.

The only thing I can think of is trading him your already-activated version and using his serial number yourself to activate yourself a new version. Although I'm not 100% sure if that will even work or not.

Once the program is activated, it's all set to be used offline, though. If it's on a laptop, maybe he can bring it over to your house? Worst case scenario: use a free AOL trial CD to get online for a couple of minutes. You only need a phone line.

Ah, so no one really knows if you can activate it manually?
That's a bummer.

He doesn't live nearby, or else I would have done that... but thanks for the ideas. ^_^
And yeah, I wonder that myself. ^^;

Accordingly to Enterbrain's English RMXP website the program should not require an internet connection, yet it seems as if an internet connection is required for activating the product.

You should check up on the laws of your area whether circumventing the copyright protection on legally bought software products is legal or not in the case of that protection being the only factor preventing the use of the product.
This situation sounds like a case where your friend might be legally entitled to circumvent the copyright protection, i.e. crack the program.

If it is not then you should be able to get money returned for what I would call a defective product.

Though before doing any of this I suggest you contact Enterbrain or Protexis. They might have a solution ;)
