Overview
This is my 4th attempt at this concept, this time with RMXP. I'm hoping this time, it will catch on a little more ( more than 20 views..., I blame tha naughty hentai game XD, stole my viewers :P) This game i somewhat like Quintessential, being focused on story and atmoshpere (as well as art) more than gameplay. It's dark, but not occult and horror, just really dark. Plus I want to include live music (by me, or with some help) and LOTS of art.
Inspirations: Fragile, Quintessential, Final Fantasy XIII, Faerie Bones, His Dark Materials, Celestias Ferrum, and my recent book, Fermata.

The story is divided into Books, then Chapters.

Story
Night Is Day --- Story version 4.32


In modern day Hitrea, it is near the apocalypse. A giant black cloud formed in the center of Lathea, the capitol of the floating city. The center was the location of the Ulma Steeple, the Mass place of the High Church. From the steeple, came the large black mass that quickly overloomed the whole city. Sunlight is compltely blocked out. Fires breaking out everywhere. People dying from a plauge. Earthquakes bringing buildings to the ground. Mysterious Demons, black, winged beasts, roam the streets, stealing souls.
The Church is controlling the government under the influence of something even bigger - Lucifer himself. The Steeple, being the Mass place, is also a meeting place for the Church - which is feeding it's greed with whatever it wants.

Hitrea is a floating city, an island in the sky filled with populace. It was created thousands of years ago, and still stands. The ground is fertile, and the land is rich with greenery. The island is only 5 miles wide.

The Ulma Steeple is the supposed resting place of the Five Sages, who rose the city from the ground. No one was aloud down in the very cellar where they are supposed to be resting.
For the city's protection, a group of five were given the Emblems that the Sages wore. These five were called the Keepers. The Emblems were supposed to have special abilities given to the possesor.

Plot:
Asea starts his quest with no role in the story, but soon it unfolds, revealing his connection to the church, the girl, and about his past, blocking his future. The girl has a seems to have some sort of relation to Asea, as he soon discovers, and he is forced to face the fears of his past he has long tried to hide away. And the Church wants something of his - Michael, and with it they will have total control, and be like God.
Of course, you can't let that happen.
The goal is undermining the Chuch, and killing your Father - who ever so tortured you, and your city. To take revenge. To leave your past behind. With the help of the mysterious girl, and Michael, you engage on a journey, through past, and future;
It's a better way to die.


Additional story supports and info (Low spoiler warning):
The demons are angel without souls, stealing the souls of the living to fill there chasm of a heart. Though many die from their attempts, they're still left in their soulless forms.

When the shadows appear over the town, Asea is killed by demon, and revived by an angel's soul, which knows his destiny. In battle, you can stab yourself to release/summon the soul for a turn.

Playable Character
Special Abilities: Stabs himslef and brings forth the angel's spirit
Personality:
Careless, shadowy, and dark. He takes a unhealthy interest in the Church's dark side. Acts like he's above all fear, though he has a corrupted past as well as his current state of hidden misery.
Info:
Asea is an orphan, living on the streets of Hitrea's Upper side. Often he takes trips to the steeple, taking to curiosity, and finding many hidden doors, and forgotten alters. When the shadow forms over the town, the people of the floating city run to hide, while Asea stares profoundedly at the dark cloud. When he is left behind by the crowd, he's attacked by a Demon, and falls, losing his soul. Michael saves him by going inside of his body.
Background: He hasn't had a very good life. Abuse and then aboandoned at a very young age. Living on the streets since and early age.
Don't have anything else for his background yet.

Guide
Special Abilities: God's Hand, some other light stuff
Personality:
Bossy and acts like he is the "left hand man of God," with virtous and righteous duties. Yeah, yeah yeah....
Info:
The supposed "Ark Angel Michael," he acts as a guide to Asea. His body, like other angels, has become a Demon. He is unable to return to his body until the darkness has stopped, and "The Final Judgement" is made.

Mysterious Girl
Female
NPC
Personality: Mysterious, disapearing, and never says a word.
Info: Seen around the ruins and on rooftops, she wears a black nightdress, has long Black hair, and bright red eyes. Really ticks Asea off.

It's not my best, and it's a crappy scan, but you get an idea of what the demons are like.
Help
I need help in the select areas (PM or email ( christopher9996@msn.com ) me):

Tilesets (only like 3 or so)
Charactersets (10 or so)
Pianist ( I can play and compose, I just can't record. A way to record would be just as nice)

Plus, I still have not figured out how to transition from my pencil drawing to the final digital, to make it look professional. It's just the line art! I really need some good steps for my drawings, going from the paper, to the final. I have Photoshop, Bamboo fun, and a scanner, pencils, brush pens, and a PC.


If you can help, that would be great.

Surprisingly I can't grasp anything from the story you've given, you've set the scene somewhat, we know what's happening but you don't detail what the games story entails, at all. You need to put up a lot more story wise to get a decent amount of feedback on what you've done cos for now all that can be said is put more up, especially on the characters, I know next to nothing about your main character, he has somehow come to possess the soul of an angel, okay, he has an unhealthy interest in the dark side of the church, who doesn't? Other than that there isn't anything, you should explain more about his role in the story, his mannerisms, personality and background so we can see if you've made a decently believable character, if you haven't we can give you advice on hitting the mark better. You should do the same for your other characters and the story cos it's a lot more scarce than I'm used to seeing so I doubt you'll even get any replies.

Nice concept I've always kinda liked the whole concept of 'evil church corrupting things to get money and faith'
I think you may need to be more specific in describing his though... I see the spark and I see it has potential... Think it out a little more

Okay, I can do the Flash now, I just figured it out. My characters, I just got a book on storywrighting, so I have a good I dea of a deeper skeleton. I'll fix that right away. ( or as soon as I can, really busy lately). When I go to the library I'll upload some pictures too (dial-up >:P)

Okay, the church is controlling the government, and (like Final Fantasy) there's an even bigger enemy. Yeah. Yep. Play the game (if it's finished) for more answers.

Sorry about that. I can't have a very big upload size, and I didn't get to inking yet.
I finally downloaded Quintessence, so I have a few new ideas.

If anyone can help, I need an idea on how I can record my live music (piano, drums, violin) with a good output. I have FL Studio, but my microphone isn't working, nor is the recording.

Plus, I still need a pixel-artist/s to start the game.

Sounds interesting to say the least, but your characters should really want something, if you don't have a focal point for a character, the drive for plot revelation ends up being slow and boring more often than not.
 
Hmmm... Well I've been sleeping on that one for something not so generalized or obvious... but still the the same plots keep apearing, so I'm going to see what happens... Hmmm...
Well if you could help, I have a few ideas:
*Past driven: Revenge for his parents, or just out to find them and kill em.
*Present: The plot wraps around the girl, who happens to be his soul or something like a twin.
*Special Powers: Him not knowing what to do with them
*Dark Side: Falling back to the Dark side, and stuff
*Return to the past: Shows the present, but then the whole game is basically the story leading up to the beginning
*Government: Yeah, you know the Church is taking over the world. Maybe he joins an Activist group and plans an attack. My last plot
*Church: The Church has some secret power that's destorying the world (hello, shadow?) or, hey, Lucifer is controlling them. That's not bad...

Well, if you could help me choose, that would be great! I really am bad at deciding...

I think [\i] I can do the spriting, and I might not need a Pixel artist after all. But I still have the question: How can I record my live music with good quality? I have a working "live quality" mic, but FL Studio isn't liking me. I want to have music like Quintessence, with all original score.

Plus, I need someone who can make a few minimal scripts. Add that to the list of needed help. A new skill (stabbing yourself), a menu, and some other stuff. If you could, either post here or PM me. ( christopher9996@msn.com )

I'd say go with the activist idea. Dead Parents, unknown sibilings, over powering the main character and general cliche's are something to always avoid.
 
You can do all those ideas if you can't decide and you should try working from each of them a bit and see which one you like most after they develop. Asking others may not work because you could end up not liking what you make after a while. If you really can't decide them come up with something completely different.
 
Well, I was thinking about mixing the Church's controlling, with the mysterious girl, and something like man vs himself. Asea could be getting over his past, which is getting in the way of his present, which is learning more about the girl, and the connections to the church. And Asea is in possesion of an item that the Church needs : a perfectly extracted angel soul, one that has actually survived.
So Asea is driven to stop the Church, because 1. they need his soul, and do you want to die? 2. Somewhere in the middle of the game, he joins parties with the girl, and she tells of the church's doing. 3. Maybe his Father or something is the head of the Church, and has fallen to Lucifer.
I'll update that into the main post later, when I can.

Okay (bump).
Just got back, I wan't home for a while there.
My story has been updated, and I have begun production of the game. I will put out screenshots of features soon, in the game developement page.

Neo face graphics ( like on the RMVX CD, the big character face sets)

(Maybe) Anime Cinematics

That's my list for now. Help is still needed for the positions of a minimal scripter, and a few pixel tasks.

I'd just like to point out before you get too carried away that concept dev. is not for advertising so if you wanna put screenshots and get mor ehype around it then make a seperate project discussion topic and link to this one for detailed feedback. Also new abilities are not really a feature unless there's a specific system for it, if you just attack yourself and he comes out that does not count. And no window for the menu does not make it art or an artsy system for that matter maybe you should explain it better.
 
Okay, sorry. I've never actually got this far with my game.
I'll put up a Game Developement page with Screenshots, final Story and Characters, and stuff. A demo, though, won't be for a while.
The menu, let's see. Well, artsy wasn't the word for it, but rather than windows, it has two pictures that slide in, containing the context. Like I said, it's like in Celestias Ferrum. And I need a way to have a sideways command_window... but other than that, it's about done. Still, I need a scripter for the things I don't know...
Right now, I have no screenshots, and there isn't much to see.
