Hi there.
This is a Project that I've been working on for the past week, or so. I've made the tilesets myself and plan on creating my own resources even for the rest of the project. I plan on using top-don-view kind of tilesets, but I also have scenes where the game is pretty much like a ordinary 2d side-view game.
My plan is to make completely new characters as well and I have decided to steer away from the common snes-rpg mold. Instead, I want the characters to have a more European look (more realistic...or more in proportion).
I will also upload a sound file later. It's basically the music for my opening scene. I've made it myself. I have no plans of using music made by known composers/games etc.
Without going too much into my plans and the story of the game I will reveal this much:
The world itself is in a state of peril, as most of the human population has been eradicated. A mysterious force known as "the Mist", wrecks havoc amongst the surviving populace. Breathing the Mist has pretty much the same effect as breathing highly poisonous gases. To escape from the Mist, the Church built cities (or sanctuaries, as they call them) and erected Machinas, Gods tools, to combat the emerging threat. Only a handful of sanctuaries remain in the world.
The main character of the game is a woman that acts as a history professor at a university in this city-sanctuary known as "the Rift". Her curious nature tends to cause problems in the school and the community itself, as she has a nasty tendency to questions traditions set by people and the ruling church-government. The society living in Rift is divided into commoners and the nobles. The Nobles are basically people that have inherited their status by birthright. They control the city's financial and educational sectors while the commoners keep the city running by taking care of the "dirty work". The main character has a problem seeing how this separation is justified. She questions also the church it's teachings, because as a professor, she has had access to material that show (at least in her opinion) contradictions in the way that the church acts/rules versus what the church preaches.
The game begins as the main character decides to sneak into one of the largest mining shafts of the city (mined for ore and Machina fuel). There has been quakes that have caused dangerous situations amongst the lower-class miners and the character has gone to investigate the situation (to make a report about the working conditions to the city officials). What she discovers from the mine shafts (with the aid of some new-found friends) will slowly begin to change the very fabric of the almost dead human society.
Few pictures to show the progress I've made:

Please note! -the character in the screenshots is going to change.
