New music (Plus a question)

thanks gulch, im not sure what you mean by note clashing? I know that playing C + D doesnt sound good I don't use 2 instruments that wont have a decent synchronization playing but thats what you hear. To me the synchronization sounds of note pitch sounds good thats what I've been working on mostley for those last 2 songs. Can you point out in time where this happens so I know exactley what you're talking about?

Also you mention a lead instrument, is this the instrument with the fastest tempo? If so you said not to use note pitchs for other intstruments that this lead doesn't use and I thought I did do that can you point to where i didn't?

I appreciate you helping me gulch because I really want to be better.

Also about the pitch of the lead some times ill have other instruments use the same keys as the lead only on a higher octave like with long strings. Is that a bad idea? I mean it sounds good to me...

to clear a few things up when i say lead, im talking about the instrument that tends to play the main melodies, think of a regular 4 peice band, you have 2 guitar players a bass player and a drummer, so you have bass and rhythm guitar, playing similar chord progressions and such, thats the rhythm section, then youll have lead guitar which will be playing something more elaborate, and then also the vocals, which if lets say you took a song with vocals and redid it as an instrumental peice, you would kind of have 2 leads, the vocals redone with an instrument and the lead guitar. basically most songs you could break down into leads and rhythm (drums i would include in rhythm in most cases)

ok to better explain myself about notes kind of clashing. starting at 2:52 when the high pitched sound comes in, its just a copy/paste of the horn up some octaves. whatever that instrument is, the high one right during that section the notes are too high and they dont sound right with the horn. if you dropped that part down 2 notes (not gonna work just dragging it down cause youll end up with sharps in there) it would be a 3rd, and would accent the horn rather than overpower it, and just with some notes when you have 2 things playing the same thing but at different octaves you just get a really sharp sound, like at 3:03 a high comes in thats kind of ear piercing, well pretty much all of from 3:03 - 3:13 will give you an idea of what i mean. it might not even be the pitch but just the instrument, it just doesnt sound good that high.

try the piano thing i was talking about up a few posts, it will be easier to pick out individual notes that sound off if its just piano, because a lot of times the notes might be good but they just dont work out with a particular instrument. that song "dawn of the day" which is what song im talking about in this post is just kind of hard to pick out notes because of the instruments used.

another thing to keep in mind is, certain instruments will only go so high in real life, so when you go out of that instruments range its not going to sound good, which i think might be the case with my main gripe in dawn of the day, hard to say. again if you just did a piano song i could more easily pick out stuff to give you examples of what youre doing right and wrong

I never thought of that before to remember how high instruments might go in real life. Thanks thats a great tip. I'll improve dawn of the day with the tipe you provide me and I'll try the piano thing too.

For now though I made this battle theme if you can tell me if theres anything wrong with this one. Most of the things you've mentioned I don't see a problem in this song so I want to make sure we are on the same page.

The next song I'll make will be the piano one.

I did the piano one. This song isn't only piano but mostley piano.

the battle theme is good, except the bassline is kind of weak. it just loops and theres no variation at at points it doesnt really flow with the song very well, but as a whole much much better this time around.

piano song. its boring and simple, but for its purpose thats fine. its seems to be in order, but, you need a new piano sound badly so...http://www.yohng.com/piano.html get the free one from here. install is pretty simple if you havent done it before heres a quick how to

download it, unpack the archive, drag the dll file into FL studio>plugins>vst folder.

open FL, up top youll see channels, go to add one > more, a box will pop up, at the bottom of the box youll find refresh. do a fast scan, and the new vst will show up in red on the list, double click it and it will put a new instrument channel.

now to save it as a preset so you can just drag it over like you can with the standard FL stuff.
-click on the instrument
-4front piano module will pop up
-click the little plug icon in the top left of it
-save preset as..
-name it something like 4front piano or whatever
-save it in samples, and it will show on the instrument list on the left side at the bottom

keep writing

I notice improvement already. I actually like the 2 last songs I made lol... I'll make more songs today. And I'm downloading the piano vst you showed me.
