Hey.

Planning on buying my server in a matter of weeks. I'm wondering what you reckon the minimum specs should be, for a decent gameserver.

What i'm planning on is:
-AMD Athlon 64-bit X2 (dual core, 3800)
-1 GB RAM

...and then Ubuntu Linux server edition as the operating system.

I'm not sure.

The forum for an old game I made, for an offline game, got 260 members, if that's anything to go by.

And yes, sort of MMORPG.

Edit:

I was wondering if anyone knows:

-How much memory each player takes
-How much CPU each player takes
-How much bandwidth each takes

hi, have all full working but how can i add maps cause when i put a new map in the server's game data folder and open the server its gives an error when loading that map...

You have to convert it to the type that the server uses. To do that, go to testplay then right at the beginning hold down Z right before the title screen and it'll convert all your data files including maps to a special file type that will be used by the server.

is this the latest version?

(I once found a version(I thought it was better, it had a menu-like interface but just at the map)

Ok, I have the tables created, with the fields and everything.
However, when I start the server, I get this error:
"Column count does not match value count at row 1"

Hey, just wondering, is there still a development team for this supposedly new '3.0'? I was wondering if there actually was or not, because I started the other day a C# server, and I can receive data from the client, I just need to create all the functions, and load all the data and everything, all I've got right now is the capability of sending and receiving strings of data. Before attempting to make this work, I wanted to know first, if there actually is a team working right now, and if not, how does this need to be rewritten? I remember Mr.Mo saying it should be rewritten in C#, but I'm not sure if he just meant to just basically translate it to C# and that was it, or what.

@skom, you didn't create the users table.

How do I create this Users table? When I used a database from a website, how do I access. With like a MySQL program?

hey The Silent Alarm, could you posibley help me with this?
i have thr ruby thing downloaded, but thats all i could do, i dont know what to do next, and when i try and play the game it just says "no server"

please help i really need this...

Netplay Plus 2.0 was in Ruby, and as for using a mysql program, all you need is your user name for that database, the host, which is the ip of the hoster hosting your database, and also the password, all the same info you use for setting up the server.

The source code wasn't given to the makers, and it doesn't have the necessary functions. Without the source code it can't be added upon to give it those functions. Or something like that.

An important question!- if a C# server is made... will it work in Linux? I'm in the process of building a Linux server (well it's built, just installing Linux). But if the server won't work in Linux, then...

Well, if it's in C# I'm pretty sure it'll only work for PC, because C# is a .Net language which is a microsoft language. As for 1.0, no it was not in C#, it was written in C++ I believe, just the application for it, and the function files were written in Lua. This Ruby server is a complete re-write by the developers of Netplay Plus, the one in 1.0 was originally written for Multi-Netplay I believe by a guy named SuicideManic. That C++ application one is not open source, so you cannot edit it.
