Need help with status/attack animation interaction

I'm no spriter, but I like having characters move around when they attack.  Thus, I imported the battler graphics into animation templates, and created attack animations which move the "battler" around, while hiding the original battler.

This looks decent, except when the attacking character has a status condition.  The status condition graphic doesn't disappear, and if it causes the character to, for example, flash, the battler doesn't disappear at all.  Is there a patch to put in the script to cause the status animation graphic to disappear along with the battler when I tell the game to hide the battler?
