Need help with events (XP)

Ok so I decided to start a brand new project after not using RMXP in ages
and then I hit a problem

I have the main character in a room and before he can leave he needs to talk to
someone else in the room before hand

I have this in an event at the exit of the room so far

Text:"I need to tell Granny I'm leaving"
and then you get moved left one

once you talk to the Granny it turns on self switch D

and on the event to stop you leaving is another page with
self switch D needing to be on in order for the page to run and it has an erase event in it

I can't for the life of me remember what the hell to do

someone help me out please?

Self switches are specific to events. They are not shared. Event 1 turns on Self Switch A Event 2 is not affected by this action at all. The "Erase Event" event command gets rid of an event but it resets when you reenter the map as I recall. You're better off just taking the event to an empty page rather than erasing it. Unless you wish to reset it every time you enter a map. So for this situation use a Game Switch or Variable to determine if Grandma no longer seeks your wise counsel.

Try this:

Granny Event
>@ Text: Hi granny I'm leaving.
>@ Control Switches: [001: Granny] On.
Then make a new page.

Then on the exit event, make a new page that transfers the player outside.
