Need Help Making Event System

Okay, heres the layout.

====Y==========Z

Okay, the -'s and |'s are a building and X is on the roof. Y is the player and Z is the enemy. I need this:
when the player (Y) gets within 3 steps of Z, Z will say something to the affect of "STOP!" and start chasing the player. When Z touches the player you go into battle. After wining the battle X runs across the roof and jumps on the ground. and the same sequence happens with a new enemy and X runs around.

so Z follows Y and of you win X comes, a new Z comes and follows X

007 sorta has it. The scene of the game is the character is trying to distract the enemy (Z) so that X can sneak on the roof tops around the enemy. So I want X to move to a new location when you win a battle. is that any better? Sorry that it was so confusing :(
 
Well, there is a very complicated way to make it with events. But you'd be MUCH better off trying Near's View Range Script. It does the checking of where the player is compared to another event. It should be in either a Test Bed or the Script Listings.
