Hi, wanted to clarify some of the rules here. I was talking to someone the other day (they didn't know who I was) and they started saying how they hate rmxp.org because they ban people for silly things such as necroposting. This is not us. We have vastly changed over the years and well, if you haven't been here recently you honestly do not know what we are like. Inane bans do not happen here any more, and to be honest even warnings are very scarce. This is partly because we have better people here now, but also because we do not punish people for silly rules.
Necroposting
Necroposting is only a bad thing in certain circumstances.
We do not (or, at least, should not) have any rules for Necroposting outside of certain forums. We do however have rules for spam.
In short, replying to a topic with a smiley face, a one liner, or something that doesn't really add to or invoke conversation, is a bad thing. This doesn't matter if the thread is old or not. If however you reply to a very old thread with :mystery: don't be surprised if your post is deleted to allow the thread to sink back to the back of the forums.
Necroposting is not a bad thing. It invoked new talking points in topics which may still be relevant. Especially in General Discussion, or in Game Dev Discussion. It is a good thing. That is not to say everyone should go out and necropost lots, just, if you feel need to don't be ashamed.
Where is necroposting not acceptable?
Script threads and project threads generally have certain rules regarding necroposting.
1. If the member is no longer active on the forums (hasn't been online in the past month) do not necropost the topic.
2. If the member has specifically said they will no longer support a script or thread, do not necropost it.
3. If a download link is broken, and the member is no longer around, do not necropost; instead the lost project threads and such might be useful.
In short, if necroposting will not benefit the situation (i.e. if the member doesn't even come here any more) it is pointless to necropost.
Now... completed games. If the game is readily downloadable feel free to comment on it.
Hopefully this clears up some issues. And yes, this is another pointless rant from yours truly about something completely silly. Sorry.
