Necroposting and YOU

Hi, wanted to clarify some of the rules here. I was talking to someone the other day (they didn't know who I was) and they started saying how they hate rmxp.org because they ban people for silly things such as necroposting. This is not us. We have vastly changed over the years and well, if you haven't been here recently you honestly do not know what we are like. Inane bans do not happen here any more, and to be honest even warnings are very scarce. This is partly because we have better people here now, but also because we do not punish people for silly rules.

Necroposting

Necroposting is only a bad thing in certain circumstances.

We do not (or, at least, should not) have any rules for Necroposting outside of certain forums. We do however have rules for spam.

In short, replying to a topic with a smiley face, a one liner, or something that doesn't really add to or invoke conversation, is a bad thing. This doesn't matter if the thread is old or not. If however you reply to a very old thread with :mystery: don't be surprised if your post is deleted to allow the thread to sink back to the back of the forums.

Necroposting is not a bad thing. It invoked new talking points in topics which may still be relevant. Especially in General Discussion, or in Game Dev Discussion. It is a good thing. That is not to say everyone should go out and necropost lots, just, if you feel need to don't be ashamed.

Where is necroposting not acceptable?

Script threads and project threads generally have certain rules regarding necroposting.

1. If the member is no longer active on the forums (hasn't been online in the past month) do not necropost the topic.
2. If the member has specifically said they will no longer support a script or thread, do not necropost it.
3. If a download link is broken, and the member is no longer around, do not necropost; instead the lost project threads and such might be useful.

In short, if necroposting will not benefit the situation (i.e. if the member doesn't even come here any more) it is pointless to necropost.

Now... completed games. If the game is readily downloadable feel free to comment on it. :)

Hopefully this clears up some issues. And yes, this is another pointless rant from yours truly about something completely silly. Sorry.

No Necroposting
Do not post in topics that are more than two months old, unless you are the OP (original poster) or the OP is currently active. (see FAQ below for further explanation). You will be warned.

Might wanna change this too then.
It's sad to see that there are people out there that think this forum is on a banningspree, but hopefully this will help change that.

Meh. It doesn't matter what we do, old members / visitors will always hate us. I take pride in the fact we're the most feature-packed site, and the site with the most future potential; however we're dead because of ages gone ~

I find it funny they were all talking about how nasty the staff members are until I said I'm an admin. Suddenly went quiet. Silly people don't realise these "bad people" they're talking about are people they chat with every day.

I'm an old member, but I don't hate you or the site. In fact, the only reason I'll leave is if Brewmeister leaves (lol jk). I have seen some crazy crap go on around here, and me get warned once over something small. But this is still the home of the RMXP to me and it's where I found my GF who I ended up moving in with. Please don't let this site die...

Speaking of Necroposting, is necroposting pinned topics a bad thing o.o... And if it isn't, can I bump it after three days?

Why would you want to bump a pinned topic? It's already at the top of the board, so it serves no real purpose.

Ahh, but that's where you're wrong. It shows that topic at the home page/forums of the site. Besides... You're an experienced scripter, You're the reason why I want to bump it.

I don't know about you but this is the only community ( games forums whatever ) that never goes on a banning spree.

You must be a SERIOUSLY BAD MEMBER to get banned here.

Even annoyances don't get warnings.

I wonder how they said that rmxp.org was on a banning spree

:mystery:

Despain's era used to ban people for necroposting, really quite often, so I guess that's where they got it from. :|

Regardless the ban list was cleared when phpbb was installed so all old shit forgotten.

Also feel free to post in any sticky you want unless it's locked.

ive been a member since 2006, and i would like to say i like the way the site has moved since then :) the only thing i ever complain about now-a-days is about how long seph has been gone(refer to siggy)
