Naruto: The MMORPG Concept

Hey, this is an in depth idea for a Naruto MMORPG which in my opinion has one the best potential concepts for an MMO ever. Feel free to comment or ask whatever questions you would like. Oh ya and sorry about the format, it changed when I pasted it on here, but letters are supposed to be braches off of numbers, and i,ii,iii, etc. are branches off of letters.

Naruto: MMORPG
The beginning
1. Choose 5-20 letter name
2. Answer questions
a. Decides your clan/bloodline: Aburame, Fuma, Haku, Sarutobi, Senju, Wagarashi, Wasabi, Yamanaka, Yotsuki Hyuga, Puppet Master, Akimichi, Kaguya, Kamizuru, Kedouin, Kurama, Nara, Ranmaru, Uchiha, Inuzuka
b. This may effect your village choices, character’s look options, Haku’s clan does one handed jutsus, and your attributes/skills
3. Chose gender
4. Customize your character’s looks
a. Hair, Facial Hair, Eyes, Nose, Mouth, Ears, Height, Weight, Showing of Age, Starting Cloths, Masks/Facial Tattoos, Body Tattoos, Hands, Legs, and Arms
5. Choose your hidden village
a. Leaf Village, Sand Village, Mist Village, Cloud Village, Rock Village, Sound Village, Grass Village, Rain Village, Waterfall Village,
b. These are villages in the 5 main countries: the Fire Country, the Wind Country, the Water Country, the Lightning Country, and the Earth Country
c. Extra Villages: Sky Village, Snow Village, Star Village, Dragonfly Village, Hot Water Village
d. These are all the countries: Land of Bears, Land of Birds, Land of the Claw, Land of demons, Land of Earth, Land of the Fang, Land of Fire, Land of forest, Land of the Whirlpool, Land of Lightning, Land of the Moon, Land of the Mountains, Land of Noodles, Land of Red Beans, Land of Rivers, Land of Sand, Land of the Sea, Land of Snow, Land of Sound, Land of Stone, Land of Swamps, Land of Tea, Land of Valleys, Land of Vegetables, Land of Water, Land of Waves, Land of Wind, Land of Honey
6. Tutorial area: The basics of the game are explained while attending the school, they are taught by that villages jonin/chunin npcs.

Stats
1. Attributes: Strength, speed, intelligence, etc
2. Skills: Offensive jutsu, defensive jutsu, genjutsu/illusion, ninjutsu, taijutsu, weapon jutsu, invigorating jutsu, binding, summoning, health, stealth/flee, throwing weapons, melee weapons, traps

Gameplay
1. Ranking System
a. Players start out at level 1 and can reach a max level of 60.
b. Everyone starts of as an academy student in the ninja academy within their village.
i. During the academy student stage you go through the beginning as explained previously. Then when you complete the tutorial you should be level 10 and can graduate after passing the test.
c. When you graduate you become a genin and earn you forhead protector. You can then attempt D-Rank missions, occassionally C-Rank missions, and can leave the village.
d. After level 25 you can enter the Chunin exam where you will have to compete against other online users assigned in a group of three, in order to keep the chunin numbers limited and seen as a prize/honorable.
e. If you are promoted to Chunin you are also rewarded With the Nin Battle Vest worn by all Chunin levels and higher, can help teach academy students for money (optional), and can go on C-Rank or B-Rank missions alone or with a group (max of 3 ninjas).
f. At level 40 you will be sent on a quest by the Kage of your country to complete some objective or compete in another PvP event. If you complete this hard test you will be promoted to the rank of Jounin. You can then go on A-Rank missions and if experienced enough occasionally S-Rank missions.
g. At Level 50 you have the option to stay a Jounin or become an Anbu.
i. If you remain a Jounin you will promoted to a Jounin Elite.
ii. Jounin Elite are given ability to pick 1 special skill from a list of skills (Ex: Chidori).
iii. If you choose to be Anbu will be put through a long quest consisting many parts (ex: Part1, lead a party of NPCs to defeat a group of enemies, Part2, Travel deep into enemy territory to recover an item, Part3, defeat 20 enemy playable characters of level 30+).
iv. If you receive the promotion to Anbu, you will not receive a Special Skill until level 55. Once an Anbu you get grey and black armor, animal mask of your choice, Anbo tatoo on left shoulder of male and right shoulder of female, you can hunt missing nins, still do A-Rank and S-Rank missions, and get special quests of hunting evil NPCs.
v. At level 60 you have to compete with others from your village to become one of the Kage’s main men of your village in the Jonin Tournament. To do some you must have the Highest number of defeated Playable Characters, this is just like being a Jounin or Anbu, but S-Rank missions will be less rare.
2. Then you can continue training, fighting, doing PVP battles, doing mini games, and doing missions until you get to the starting max level of 80.

Status/Screen
1. Players status is based on health meter and chakra meter.
2. If player's health is reduced to 0 player is felled.
3. If chakra is reduced to 0 player suffers a penalty to all their attributes and can't cast a jutsus until enough Chakra is regained.
4. To regain health and chakra, A player can use a restoration facility, meditate, or use special items for the such.
5. Player name, level, health meter, chakra meter, and party members are displayed in top left of screen, which is default location for must games.
6. Friend/clan chat is available in the bottom left.
7. Mini map is located in the top right.
8. At each level a user can put points into their attributes to make them more proficiant in that attribute.

Combat
1. Hotbar with 12 hand seals, can also be done on keyboard with 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, 12.
a. 01.Rooster (é…‰, Tori)
b. 02.Boar (亥, I)
c. 03.Dog (戌, Inu)
d. 04.Dragon (è¾°, Tatsu)
e. 05.Ox (丑, Ushi)
f. 06.Tiger (寅, Tora)
g. 07.Snake (å·³, Mi)
h. 08.Rat (子, Ne)
i. 09.Horse (午, Uma)
j. 10.Monkey (申, Saru)
k. 11.Rabbit (卯, U)
l. 12.Ram (未, Hitsuji)
2. Different combinations of hand seals will perform different jutsus once you learn them (the harder combo of hand seals, the better the jutsu).
3. A separate set of hand seal orders will allow for you to bite your finger and use summoning jutsus (the larger summons u will be riding and you can cast jutsus off of, the smaller ones will just help you fight).
4. You control your character with arrow keys
5. Double click arrow keys to sprint
6. Click on the enemy to attack and lock on
7. While locked on double click to dart and move to the side of them to dodge melee and weapon attacks (this uses chakra).

Experience, Attribute, and Skill Points
1. To level up you must gain experience from quests, training, or fighting.
2. When you level up you gain attribute points to raise your str, speed, etc., and skill points to raise your jutsus, etc.
3. You go to a trainer to either increase your current skills or learn new ones.

Jutsus
1. Different level jutsus, then once you reach the level requirement you must spend the skill points on them
2. You can upgrade each jutsu 5 times then it is maxed.
3. Academy students/E-Rank: Transformation Technique, Rope Escape Technique, Body Replacement Technique, Clone Technique, Cloak of Invisibility Technique
4. Genin/D-Rank- Example: Body Flicker Technique
5. Chunin/C-Rank- Example: Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique
6. Jonin/B-Rank- Example: Shadow Clone Technique
7. Kage/A-Rank- Example: Chidori, Rasengan
8. Individual/S-Rank- Example: Wind Release: Rasenshuriken

Housing
1. Begin with simple apartment with all the other members then as you go on you can buy a new apartment room, become a home owner, and buy upgrades for your house.

Items
1. The MMORPG would include all the same weapons as the show including kunia, double-sided kunia, shurikan, exploding tags, stun tags, sleep tags, genjustsu tags, needles, kamas, sickles, swords, umbrellas, etc.
a. If you use exploding tags on a thrown weapon they will explode on contact.
b. Exploding tags used on objects in nature will be used as traps, if came close to they will explode.
2. The clothes and armor worn by players in the Game would be taken from the show or be concepts from the culture seen in the series.
3. special enchancement items would be used to enchance skills and attributes such as earrings, necklaces, braclets, and rings.
4. Medical kits, chakra healers (very expensive and don’t heal much), food (like ramen, helps attributes or heals)
5. Scrolls to learn new jutsus.
6. Misc.: Ropes to tie people up, torches to burn buildings

Guilds/Clans
1. Players can go to their village Center and apply to create an In-game guild/clan
a. A guild/clan would serve as to unit players into a mini-community and share common goals.
b. Guild/clan members would not be limited to having to belong to the same village or alliance as the guild/clan leader decides.
c. Clan battles: 20V20, 12V12, 8V8, 6V6, 3V3, 2V2, 1V1; you can practice these against your own clan if it has enough members and go against other clans.
i. You can bet on your clan.
ii. If you win enough there are tokens received to buy new items.

Mini Games
1. Gambling
a. Casinos and roadside gamblers with card games, dice, etc.
2. PvP arena
a. For people not in clans who will get matched up with random people to compete in whatever size battle they want.
i. Prizes like in clan battles
3. Capture the flag
a. A strategic game requiring a variety of attributes and skills to be successful.
i. Different jobs for people: 3 attackers-speed, agility, endurance (try to capture the other teams flag), 3 midis- speed, agility, intelligence/trap (try setting traps and tying up the other teams attackers), 3 defenders- intelligence/trap, skill (the only chakra user, try setting traps, can transform into fake flags, form diversions, and confuse the enemy through genjutsu) , One goalie-requires strength (try stopping the opposing attackers while having to stay in their goalie circle by hitting the attackers with a club with a chance to KO them and make them respawn in their teams defense zone).
4. The Hunted
a. A two player strategic game
b. One person has to find the other by setting traps, using pets, using summoning jutsus, using dojutsu (truth seeing jutsus), tracking footsteps, and following noise

a. One village tries to sneak in to another village, the more they bring the easier it is to raid the village but the harder it is to defeat the village
b. If the defending village notices they may notify all the village members, and that village can set up posts causing the invaders to approach the town walls against rangers and front lines, also the force field idea (like bleach).
c. Then once they penetrate the can burn buildings, pillage, etc.
d. After the siege is over the village members must help reconstruct the village with a period of time of safety.
e. If the members of the attacking team are defeated they cause there country to pay a fee, and are caused themselves to pay the most of the fee.
f. Other Villages as well as missing nin militias can do this
g. If an country with an alliance tries sieging their allies country they become enemies giving away there stealth advantage.

Best concept ever eh? No it's not. It's an overused idea by many fanboys that never saw the light of the day (how about you tell us how you are going to do this, we may be a little more impressed). And I don't call this a concept : it features pretty much everything that is in every RPG/MMO game ever (elemental places, housing, ranking/leveling, KILLING MOBS FOR XP...). And it's not actually developped - it's just writing every idea, or rather every obvious thing that defines an RPG.

If you're really serious about the concept at least don't be lazy and clear out the formatting.

So you may have the best idea ever, but so far you're not very convincing. If it's serious, work on it more. Much more.

Awesome Bro

I'm agreeing with Zek here, I mean, this idea is TERRIBLE, fangames are bad enough as it is, but Naruto !? That just makes it 10x worse, and everything you've added on the features list etc. are bog standard in any game, I'd expect to kill mobs for exp, how else would I get it !?

And it is NOT one of the best potential concepts for an MMO ever, since it's just darn right terrible...

Maybe you should rethink this "concept" of yours, and not make a fangame of a terrible anime show.

And besides, you have NOTHING to show for this, except the whole bunch of text that means nothing to anyone, since it's all bog standard stuff that anyone could write/think of...

Try again.

Alright, thx for commenting and I'm not trying to argue. This is the concept development area, you can't put pictures or anything to show what you have developed on he game just the idea. Also, I know it has a lot of the basic MMO elements, but it also has tons of different ones. Jbrist, you just sound like you don't like Naruto because if this game was made right it would be huge.

Please elaborate on this, how does me not liking an anime affect the population of a game, which by the way, fangames are 99.99999999% terrible, I've never come across a fangame that I like, since they're terribly made, you can't just get a few rips and act as if you've done something amazing...

Secondly, the game wouldn't be huge if it were made right, because everyone is assuming you're going to use RMXP/VX for this, and games made with the RM makers do NOT go far...

Maybe if you started creating this game from scratch, using properly made high polygon 3D models, with 3D environments, a world bigger than WoW, have a decent storyline for the people to play from, you know, like the REAL MMO's out there, then I'll gladly eat my words, shit them out, then eat them once more....

But since I highly doubt you can do ANY of that, my opinion sticks, this can only be bad...

ya, i understand what your saying, I was picturing it with graphics more like diablo 3 or WoW

Again, how are you going to do this? Getting an idea is one thing, realizing it is an other (or else I'd be world-wide famous by now).

First, what do we do first in a large-scale project (= 3d commercial game)? Research. Not only market research (to see if i'd ACTUALLY be popular), but research on the MMORPG genre, what makes it popular, what are the key elements. Starting by looking at other MMORPGs. And if you did, you'd see that

but it also has tons of different ones.

may not be totally true.

I'll give serious advice, say you finish this game, in say 3 years, you have a nice ORPG in RMXP or VX, you have everything on the list, fully custom graphics, the works. How are you going to get people to play it over the other free ORPGS out there? If you make it in 2D you have competition from Ghost Online and Maplestory, how do you hope to get people into an unofficial Naruto fangame which is only substandard compared the the much more polished and unique games out there? If it's 3D you have competition from so many other games which have established communities and also will have a hell of a lot more polish and expansion available than the restrictions of a Naruto fangame.

Lastly, you cannot make a single penny from this game because it's a fangame, if you try to make people pay for shit then Shueisha will jump on you, sue you for any money you made plus more and probably take ownership of the game too. So you're gonna spend 3+ years making a game, not be able to get any recognition for it and not be able to make money off it. Do you really wanna do that? I say you just make something of your own and then at least people will respect you for finishing a project and you don't have to compete with the ridiculously saturated online market. Regardless this isn't going to make it anywhere, so just give up now and choose something realistic rather than wasting time writing up something that will never be used.

Should you complete this, I will eat my hat.

You know if this game was out there, at this moment... I WOULD BUY IT! However, this is a huge concept to attempt, and it might be beyond you. But image you work hard, suffer and accomplish what no one said you could do... What would you gain from it? You'd have to have custom graphics to give people the WOW! factor, be completely within the Naruto timeline to satisfy the Naruto fans, and all the while, have plenty of things to do to keep people interested in it. ... But remember because this is a fan generated game, you'd be doing it for FREE!

You couldn't charge a single dime for any of it. Believe me, you'd deserve it, if you were able to finish it after all of that. I would buy it, trust me... It's exactly what I've always wanted to play, so trust me, when I say on hard it is to tell you.
