My World Map

looks far more better...I like it....still make it not so plain.....give it some coror on the islands...like a dark green color here and there...unless it supposed to be like a pirate map then your all good!

except those lines that cut across it....they kind of make it look like a rolled up globe.....if your gonna add line through the map make it more flat not round...

Looks a lot better to me. However, I suggest taking out the horizontal lines. If you're going for those lines you see on a map of earth, it only works on an actual globe, unless you go with his suggestion of making them straight.

I'm glad u finaly got rid of the MS pint-style continents, but i think maybe go for somthing a little simpelr for the scroll

Thats the FFXI world map, i think it's very atractive. Give you any ideas..?

The last version is the best, however, the continents don't blend with the scroll-paper-thing.
You should do like the FFXI map, that map is an example of a good map that actually blends.

haha sorry i havent checked back here in a while, thank you for the help everyone!!!

@Mascarpone - im a little lost at what youre trying to say, do you mean the border of the scroll? or just the look of the map itself? I'm going to try doing a little bit to my map to make it look a little more like that FFXI map but the whole reason i wanted the scroll look (the rolled edges) is so that you can see the background behind the map like the screenshot of my game in this post.

@Calibre - i love the look of that, it kinda reminds me of an old movie type thing with those lines going through it up and down. how do you make it look so dark and oldish?

here's the screenshot of my map in my game.

thanks

OK try and follow these steps.

1 Image - Adjustments - Hue - Slide it so it's more yellowy than red like my colour.

2 Image - Adjustments - Contrast - Make the contrast a bit higher so you have stronger details

3 - Duplicate the layer with the map on

4 - Filters - Brush Strokes - Dark Strokes and get something you are happy with

5 - Merge it with layer below (Sorry I can't remember if I used a blending method here)

6 - Change the contrast and brightness again, adjust it to what you want.

7 - Layer - Layer style - pattern overlay - artist surfaces - canvas - blend mode overlay opacity 65%.

8 Create a blank layer and merge with map layer to get rid of the layer properties.

9 - Go to layer options again - artist surfaces again - find gouche light in water, set it to overlay again and this time 80% opacity.

Voila.

Yeah that's cool man, were you going for paper or parchment?  I wasn't sure... if you wanted parchment like in my example... and make it a little more worn... I touched it up a bit...  The only thing was to me, in yours the shading looks a bit too speckly, but it's fine, a matter of preference really.

EDIT: I think I've overdone the texture of the parchment quite a bit here actually, but that kinda thing)

Wow, it's not even funny how much of an improvement this is over the one on the original post.

I would like to make a recommendation though. I hate hate hate the Papyrus font. It's not a bad font itself, it's just that everyone and their brother uses it. IMO you'd be better off downloading & using a font sorta like it.

That's just a nitpick from a graphic designer who has to look at this crap all day :P

Whoa man! Yellow Fever... You're last one works better than this!

Do you mean you'd like me to edit you're PSD?  I'm happy to do that if that's what mean.
