My Pixel Art (NEED CONSTRUCTIVE CRIT)

Alright so I've been trying to sprite on XP/VX templates and well I just suck at it. So last night I was messing around and tried to sprite a anatomically correct female body. It turned out nice in my humble opinion and I decided I'd try a second pose. I believe that I have found my own art style and I like it. I clothed my first sprite and I really think I'm on to something here. Here are the 3 images and I need some constructive comments/criticism. Thanks for viewing.

i edited your post to use the imagezoom tag instead of regular image. it's better for pixel art.

- what reference did you use for the pose?
-pilloshaaaaaaaaaaaaaading
-very awkward proportions

i plan to flesh this out into a fuller critique tomorrow im tired tonight

I used the wonderful poses at posemaniacs.com for references.
I'm not to great at shading overall, and the proportions should be correct.
It's not a CHIBI its an Anatomically correct sprite.

Yeah I know about the hip, I've been trying to fix it but whenever I curve it it gets to big. And I'd prefer criticism that just isn't, parts of it look awful.

What else am I supposed to say? You know its bad, so try to fix it. Its noticeable without even the zoom.

The other two dont look terrible but there is a lot of work to be done. Try curving the left side of the hip to match the right, and on the third sprite the breasts need to be lowered and moved slightly to the left. The head size is also very under-proportioned, as Des pointed out. He'll probably give you a better crit than me.

Number one: read this and study is religiously: http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm

Now onto a more personal crit:

Really quick and I didn't use any references or anything. But I think it does a decent job of showing what I'm trying to say. The following points will all explain my edit.

- what reference did you use for the pose?

The site you mentioned is a pretty decent site for poses and a good ference for anatomy. But you need to learn how to draw before you learn how to draw proper anatomy. Does that make sense? Your approach is obvious: you started with the outlines first. This isn't ALWAYS a bad thing, but it is far easier to keep FORM in mind when working with a skeleton, and then bulking in shapes like I did here. I find that when working from an anatomy reference, taking this approach makes things FAR EASIER and allows me to keep closer to the original reference.

Always think in terms of a three-dimensional object.

-pilloshaaaaaaaaaaaaaading

Your piece has some of the WORST PILLOWSHADING I'VE SEEN IN A LONG TIME. Your color palette alone needs a lot of work as well. A lot of this is covered in that tutorial I linked to, and I doubt I can word it much better than his images show, but probably the most glaring error of this whole piece is that your lightest shade is actually a midtone. You have no highlights whatsoever, and your shading doesn't pay attention to the actual three-dimensional form of the human being.

-very awkward proportions

The lengths of the limbs and stuff don't seem to be the biggest problem here, which is nice because usually they are. It's the details within the body that you seem to have a hard time with. Namely the breasts, which are absolutely hideous. Your knees and hips don't look like real joints, but look more like some sort of deformity where the flesh was pulled or stretched. Remember the muscles and bones underneath the skin, ESPECIALLY when working in joint areas. Your arms are thin and look more like tentacles without any real definition.

Lastly the face is just hideous. The big anime eyes are a DEFINITE NO-NO (even moreso when you just made one and then pasted it), and the whole proportions of the head are off. Hell, just do a google image search for HEAD PROPORTIONS and you'll get a shitload of solid references.

I hope that helps buddy. I promised you a good crit and I think I've delivered. Good luck.
