My new game: The Myth of Dazel

Hi all,

Let me introduce you my second game with Contruct 2. It is called "The Myth of Dazel". This will be the thread dedicated to the game. I will put all the updates concerning the game here. I've been working on this for 2 months now and I wanted to do something different from "This is Cute!" my first game.

Here is the link to play it:
Play the game here

Here are some screenshots:

The game design and especially the characters in the game are all from "The Legend of Zelda". Even if I changed the names of the Characters. I didn't want to create a "Legend of Zelda" game. I didn't want to use that name (it's Nintendo property). Therefore, I changed the name a little.

Instead of:
"The Legend of Zelda", I chose,
"The myth of Dazel".
You can notice that Dazel is Zelda but backward  . and a Myth is just a synonym to the word Legend.

Same things for the main character.
It's obviously Link, but I decided to call him Kinle (I added an "e" at the end  )

I used the free edition of Construct2, therefore with the events limitation (100 events max), I was not able to do some stuff and the game is unfortunately still buggy. I really apologize for that.

Please, feel free to leave me any kind of comment about the game ( graphics, music, gameplay, etc.). I'm still working on this game. I'm trying to improve it knowing the events limitation. I used a lot of different resources to make that game. I would have never finished this game without people's work. Therefore, I want to thank them. I will write the credits soon. Don't worry guys, I didn't forget you.

Enjoy!

Story
You play as Kinle, a warrior. His best friend, the princess Dazel has been kidnapped by the terrible NutDark. You will do anything to save her. Why? Because that's your job!

Gameplay
I know, I know, the character looks exactly like Link. But, the gameplay is really different from a traditional "Legend of Zelda" game. Since this is a side-scrolling action game, the game looks really like The legend of Zelda 2. I think a lot of young players have never played that game. . Even I, have never played that game :haha: Anyway, you should rapidly understand how to play it. Everything is explained in the game in addition.

Graphics
I've already said that before, I suck at creating graphics. Therefore, I used other people' graphics. I would like at least before writing the full credits, thank semijuggalo for creating the main character sprite. Without him, this game would have never existed. So, Thank you! . The rest is composed by a mix of mario tileset, naruto tileset, etc. I will write everything in the credits.

Music
Same thing than the graphics, I will write everything in the credits. But I want to thank dayjo, Kayin1 and remaxim for their beautifil pieces. I didn't forget the other ones. You will all be in the credits.

Difficulty
The game is a bit difficult. Just a bit. I finished it many and many times. But that's only because I know the game perfectly. Let me know if you think that the game is too difficult.

It's incredible what you can do with only 100 events but it also makes me think of "What we can do with a license!!!!!!!". Unfortunately, I can't afford to buy a license for the moment (patience...). I should have got one before even if I know that, at that moment, I still couldn't afford one

Anyway, more seriously, here are more screenshots:

I played the game but I couldn't find the Ocarina. Can you help me with that?
@Nachos,
Thanks for playing Nachos. I hope you enjoyed the game. Concerning your question, there is no Ocarina in the game  .
The only items you need in the game are:
- the sword
- the bow and arrows
- the hookshot

I wanted to add an ocarina (why not) but it would have cost me events. When you use the free edition of the software, you can only use 100 events max. For creating this game, I used all the 100 events. So, no place to add new stuff. I could add new stuff in the game if I have a license of the software.

Hi, no big deal or anything and this is great, but would you mind crediting Zelda in your first post or something?

Great game though, been a while since I've played a platformer this fun. I like all the special events and such you can activate along the way, makes it a lot more than just a platform jumper.

@Wyatt,
Thanks a lot Wyatt for trying my game. I really appreciate that. And this comment from yo means a lot also to me. First of all, you're totally right about mentioning and crediting Zelda in the post. That was really disrespectful from me. I'll correct that mistake right away.

I really envy people like you who can create their own sprites, I saw a couple of yours and they all kick ass man. I decided to learn how to create those so that I won't have to always take people's sprites. In addition, I will always create the hero I want and not stick to what I found on a website. Do you know any good site where I could learn that? Do you mind telling me how your learnt?

Again, thanks for trying the game, thanks for your remark. To finish, did you find any bug in the game by the way?

Its a cool little game, but its plagued by some issues I've found.
The most noticeable I found was the delay in facing; something to do with the triggering system or detection, but if you try to attack in the other direction too quick, he wouldn't turn in time when fighting.
Those little blue guys a the start of the game need to be able to turn direction, that very first one was attacking me, went past me, and then just kept running at the edge of the screen.

Thanks @Xhukari for your comment, I'm glad you find the game quite cool.

I think I see what you mean. Unfortunately, I was unable to reproduce the issue. I only hope that it doesn't reduce too much the satisfaction of playing. I also hope it doesn't occur too often. In addition, I don't know if I could do anything about that.

Concerning this issue. Normally, the blue squid turn direction automatically. I put a small script that prevents the behavior you mentioned. If in your case, they didn't turn back for example, I will be really surprised. Did that issue happen all the time while you were playing?

Thanks again.

I'm not sure how you would fix the issue in a Construct 2 game, but on Flash, if I want increased responsiveness, I can increase the frames per second (how many times it runs the code) or by using an Interval system where every X milliseconds it performs the code. I believe this correlates because it will only detect changes everytime the code is ran, so increasing this assists with that.

Perhaps I should be more specific. the AI doesn't turn around when it hits the edge of the map. If you start the browser game, the very first enemy you come across just collides with the edge of the level.
