My new character template

thx :) working on a male now, and then some kid templates etc. You learn from every sprite you make and now I see the perspective on the girl isnt completely right. Nothing majorly annoying, but still. Once I have the male done I might make a version with slightly more subtle and real shading and .

But my hands are itching to make a tileset that fits with these :)

Here is the male version :)

I made it quite quickly so there might be some imperfections but as far as I can tell it looks ok.

Male bodies are less curved so this one might look a little more boring with my simple shading style ( altho to me it doesnt look bad or anything) but I might make a more detailed one as far as shading goes.

as always, feedback apreciated.

I think you need to redo the legs in the sideview. I realize they are from the Female template, and as a result they are just too feminine.

I like the girl. But the Male could need some knees in his walking naimation... he looks like a wooden-leg-handicapped-guy. For the female was it okay, cause women walk like that. But men need a more elegant and sportish way of walking.

Hey there.
All in all a great WIP. Something in the legs still looks way wrong though on the male especially. Can't quite figure out what it is but they look very un-natural. Still though I'd like to see this temp finished.

well I have nothing to add to what has just been said, but I must say I really love your temp. It's proportions remind me of what I was aiming for with my first HUGE sprites... but tons better . keep it up man =)

Hey all, sorry, but been pretty buisy lately and have little time atm. I will update the male soon tho. I wasn't completely happy with him myself, but I spent a fraction of the time on him then it it cost me to make the girl hehe.

I like the torso, but the arms are a bit to flappy and he looks like he needs to poo in the side walking animations :P

Hmm I think you could still use some work on your female template. She's okay except for her walking animation. It looks a little strange the way she's stepping as far as the side one goes. In her second side animation why is she looking like she's leaning back? Her back arm looks a little funny to me too like it should be longer and lowered or maybe one of either. Her last walking animation on the side could use some tweeking as far as proportions go. Her foot behind seems to get much smaller and the knee is too low. They should be about equal to each other with the back one a little bit higher but right now you have it a little lower. If you lift the bottom of her feet so many pixles then the knee needs to be raised that many pixles as well. Right now you have both knees at the same height even though the leg is raised to show distance. Hope that helps ya out. :)

It is the kind of stride I was aiming for, it fits the look of this char. Besides, 3 effective frames for walking does not give loads of options for fluid or realistic walking.

Yes, she is sort of leaning back in every shott ho, just in one side shot more because of the turning of the torso makes it more apparant. Moving the head or the body more to get it all centered better would mean sacrificing fluid walking animations. Since the side animation is only visable a split sec and in the middle of moving, it was not really top priority to me to change it, besides, she looks ok to me as I was aiming for a princessy girly girl kind of walk to fit with the curves.

Nothing wrong with the arms, its because of perspection and shes bending em. /Jedi mindtrick.

You are right about the foot, it does get a little smaller then should in 2 frames.

You are wrong about the knees. The knee of the hind leg drops below the knee of the front leg when walking.

And everything else is just creative freedom to make something or other work better in the end, like the walking animation or just because it looks nicer.

But, I dont have much time atm and the male one needs loads more work whereas Im satisfied with the female one mostly
