My hospital experience

Hmm.

Here's what I'm going to say.
Learn to cook. Cooking is by far the cheapest way of getting good food.
And by god, cut down on the meat. If you're a 'strictly meat guy', you'll understand when I say that meat is expensive.
Try looking at some recipes from Meatless Monday, they may be more up your alley than a salad.
If money is tight, consider giving up dairy products. If you can somehow get your calcium elsewhere, it'll be better for both your health AND your wallet.
You'll spend more time shopping for groceries or in the kitchen, but it'll be well worth it.

Hey, no problems. Anyways, I realized there are a few things I forgot to mention earlier.

Thing one: never, ever EVER buy any food that comes pre-wrapped in aluminum foil then a wax paper bag then a box then a ... you get the drift. If you can, quit buying pre-made food. It's high in sodium, fat, and it's expensive.

Thing two:When shopping, see if there's a local store. You might think that supermarkets would have the best deals, but a smaller local store often has lower overhead. Farmer's markets are great, and if you are somehow blessed enough to have a butcher nearby, there's your shot at good high quality meat at good prices. Also, your butcher will recommend good things to do with the meat and what to do if you're low on cash if they're worth their salt. Stews and such are good ideas too.

Thing three: Batch cook. Make meals not in individual portions, but in larger ones that you can freeze and store for later.
This way, if you're tired and can't be bothered to cook, you can just reheat something.

That's most of it. One more link, just in case.

Well, thankfully they just opened an Aldi down the street.
The news said it's like "OMFG cheap!!1!one!!" so I'm gonna head there when I get paid on Saturday. Until then it's starvation time.

when you're hooked on bad-for-you shit, then everything healthy sounds grotesque, but if you keep up a healthy diet for a long time (6+mos) then your body becomes used to it and bad shit sounds gross. I used to LIVE for Burger King but since I've been on my long-standing diet, it actually sounds a little repulsive to me to eat something loaded with fat.

i hate pussing out but seriously.

I haven't been sick, had the flu, or been nauseated in MONTHS, my joints feel better, and I have WAY more energy, since I started my healthy-foods diet.

If you do nothing else, try to intake as much fiber as you can. Americans generally only eat something stupid like 20% their DV in fiber a day and that's why colon cancer is running rampant.

Buy some Fiber One cereal and bars, I do. They taste really good, are low in calories, and HIGH in fiber.

i always figured i wouldn't need to eat a lot of fibers until my mid forties, when going poo poo is something doesn't happen regularly.
