My First Sprite.

Well I'm not a spriting fanatic but I do occasionaly make templates for use. I may show a tutorial for this. The arms are to straight and I noticed how the ears were going outwards. If it's an elf I guess its ok but if its a person try reducing the size also the template would probrably be female as the eyes look like a girls. Maybe add some breasts. If its a boy make the eyes a bit different also I don't think theres quite enough shading even when i can see all the shades. add one more dark shade. Look at the breeze template shading for example.
Over all I would give it a 7/10

put more contrast between your colors. a LOT more contrast.
you pillowshade. don't do that. think of how the light source hits the form and shade accordingly. don't follow the outlines.
the anaomty is just generally very poor. the arms/hands don't make sense at all and the face is unpleasant to look at.

I suggest you first create some easy things and read some tutorials :) this way you'll get the hang of it before starting a template.
And for the template:

1. your outline looks a little jagged.
2. you don't seem to have a specific lightsource, because you are pillowshading *putting shade all around the image*
3. your palette looks a little pale and it doesn't have enough contrast.
4. the anatomy doesn't have to be right *it can be exaggerated* but it needs to make sense and certain body parts need to be distinguishable.

edit by msisingno: FUCKING USE IMAGEZOOM I HAVE SEEN YOU DOING THIS WAAAY TOO LATELY ITS NOT FUCKING HARD AND IT MAKES YOUR SHIT INFINITELY EASIER TO CHECK OUT IN DETAIL. seriously

rawr, pink suits you better

Thanks guys. I was just trying something new for a change...doing my own custom stuff. I appreciate all the tips and stuff. Green raven you pwned my sprite with your new one lol.

Well.....I read some Tutorials and got some of the basic ideas of spriting, but I took Phage advice and fixed up the face....as for the body I haven't really thought of a concept. Ummmm, I'm really trying to pick up my own style of spriting and stuff so don't expect the best but here ya go.( I don't think I like the eyebrows.....they may change later on)http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e198/alucard1213/Greenpwnedmyspritelol.png[/imgzoom]

love your new style dude,
It are very small sprites but for a game that may look like a Retro styled one, it will rule!
Thank you man! I am going to be using this template for my ORPG, and was basically going for something easy to animate. So expect to see some examples of meditating, sitting, attacking, sleeping, and fishing

On my base sprite I shaded around the face and connected the neck to the body, and on my example I made the helm more darker and full and I also messed with the sword.

It's much better than your first templates but there's still lots of room for improvement.
Here's what I think when I look at it:
1. Why are the hands and feet darker than he rest of the body? O.o The lightest shade should be in there somewhere.
2.The head looks like it's been sprited from a down up perspective, so it looks like you're seeing the head from looking up at it, not down. This is easy to fix though, just lower the eyes so that you see more forehead and less of the mouth area.
3.That pink line across the face is pretty big. I see what you're trying to do with it but it's better to just put a little under the eyes instead of coloring half the face like that.
4. The shading of the eyes is very messy, I seriously can't make any sense of it at all =/
5. There's quite a bit of shading mess ups but they're just little things. Those'll stop showing up so much over time as you practice and sprite more often :)

I toyed around with it a bit and it came out like this in case you're interested:

But that's just my version, you need to edit it yourself so it's improved yet still keeps your own style. Good luck! I'll check again with the next update ^_^

@panda:
I just love the version Alucard made, your version looks more realistic, The big eyes, on the upper part of the head, your version is more like, more place for hair, eyes dont rule as much because they are lower on the head! the part of your edit he should use are the hands and feet, further, no changes!
but that's just my opinion/
