My first sprite...

I just made my first sprite using GraphicsGale.  It's a duel wielding samurai of sorts.  I was hoping I could get some opinions or tips on how to make better sprites.  I look foward to adding to the resources when I get better.  Thanks everyone. It's under my name.  I couldn't get it to post, sorry.

To post it, upload the image to a host site (I recommend photobucket), then use the [ img ] codes to put it in your post.

I suggest trying www.photobucket.com for hosting images and stuff, since posting something as your avatar can be pretty inefficient, especially if you want to change your avatar. As for the sprite itself, it's fairly blocky. I think the reason it looks that way is that it's too wide for it's height, and you put too much space between the legs and the arms. Take a look at some other people's sprites and at templates people have made, and then perhaps try spriting on those templates to get a feel for the process. And like sew my eyes open said, check out the pixel academy.

It looks very flat, is in the wrong perspective, has weird hair, seems to be pillow shaded and walks in a very strange way. Other than that, it looks okay.

Yea, I recommend going to the tutorial section :D.

Edit:  Critique the image, not other critiques please.  Response to the original version of this post deleted due to lack of useful content. -Nphyx
