My First Sprite, what do you think?

Do you think it's amateurish? I'm looking at the Ogre I made and comparing it to some of the sprites that others have made here, and mine looks amateurish. How do others make it look so good?

I tried to really analyze what Drawing really is. All it is is first of all, getting the lines drawn. Then you fill in the colors, and shading. And that's it! But the hard part is getting the lines look decent.

It's weird but I think there must be something wrong with my eyes. Because when I mirror a sprite, the mirror image looks WEIRD. The only way I can fix that is to copy the left half of the sprite, mirror it, and paste it onto the right side. That's exactly what I did with this ogre.

I don't know..something is off with my Ogre. I spent like 2 hours on it, and it still sucks. Is drawing one of those things that you have to be born with a special talent? It seems like good artists see things differently from non-Artists. They seem to have some perception or understanding that I'm missing or lacking. What am I missing?

I see the images. Hmm..maybe I should try using a template also. I guess using a template should help beginners like us. Hope you don't take it the wrong way but dude, your artwork blows. haha. Mine sucks too. Damn, do you think we will ever become as good as some people here are? I'm feeling kinda envious.

no offense taken. I know what you mean...its Hard work man. Most of these people have gone to computer design classes though...Anyway you should definately use templates. Just search for the templat gathering. Good luck.

Don't feel bad if your work sucks. If you aren't severely mentally handicapped, it (should!) get better.

:D Usually a few months won't get you anywhere, try to practice daily for a few years. And design classes don't usually help with this, but artistic talent along with practice does. :x

And that's pretty good for no template and your first sprite. How long did it take?

Some advice would be to lay off the saturation a tiny bit. (the vivid colors)

I agree, it's actually not bad at all for a first attempt without a template. The colors are a little too... umm... well from where I see it, there doesn't look like any detail until I zoom in.

As for any "advice" I'd say lighten up the colors a bit, or give them more contrast because to me it looks like a greenish blob until I zoom. Once I do zoom I can see more detail.

And the hair being perfectly symmetrical makes it appear a little off. Try making one side of the hair hold differently. A different shape, with shading to match. Watch the shading on the rest of the sprite as well.

Good work, and good luck.

If its any consolation the sprite may be bad , but you seem to understand directional lighting better than any other novice I've seen. Keep it up man, you're on your way.
