My first sprite (HK)

Hi everyone!
I decided that it was the time to teach myself how to sprite, so I thought I'd start with my favourite style, HK.
Please tell me what I've done wrong, so I can correct it, but please remember that it is my first sprite, so be fair, but don't be soft.
Here she is:

Feel free to use, not that you may want to, but if you do please credit me.
Just quickly, I'd like to say thanks to Venetia for her awesome HK hair tutorial, which inspired me to start spriting!

Hair is the best part of it, but there's still improvememnt there. For the hair I'd say keep practicing, you're in the right track.

For the rest, there's some nasty pillowshading on the shirt. You need to curve the bottom of the shirt and the skirt, and the skirt looks more like it has lines on it than folds. There's lots more to work on, but if you fix those bigger issues first the details will be easier to handle.

Good start for a first try.

It's a cute sprite, pretty good for a first try! I agree with what Despain said, so won't repeat those things.

When I first looked at it, I didn't think there was any real shading at all; it looked like there were only a max of three shades for each colour, if that. I zoomed in on it, and I think a different palette with more contrast would really help, particularly with the skirt.

I also recommend you take a good look at some of ShowKaizer's sprites. Here's the thread:

Zoom in on them and try to imitate the shading on your own sprite. If it helps, you might want to try using his palettes to practise with so you can compare them. (I did the same when I was first learning to sprite, and it helped a lot!)

Definitely a good start though!

Thank you!
@Despian: I just noticed the dreaded pillow shading on the shirt. I was trying to work out how to do her female parts and then just copied it from the other animation frames.
I thought the skirt looked wrong, I couldn't work out how to fix it.
@Britchik: Thank you for that link, that will really help me. I didn't really use a pallete... ametuer spriting mistake #1.

Thank you for viewing
