My first sprite completed.... Check it out....

With the help of members on this and other forums, I have completed my first sprite...  :thumb:

I am done with the picture. Here it is:

Well, like Sic Semper said (say that ten times fast), the shading is fairly messed up.
The Pixel Academy should help you considerably.

I'll outline what you need to change, though.
-Add an extra shade or two to the shirt.
-Reduce highlights on the pants.
-Give the hair depth.
-Add another two shades to the hair.
-Use premade palettes. You're not at the stage where you can make your own.
-Use a set light source. Right now, your shading is highlighted every which way.

Lol, everyone here has commented on the hair, I find this hilarious, as it's actually a turban that it's meant to be :thumb: (Look at the picture)

Wow, add more shades to this, make it darker, the turban is made out of a towel, it should stick out, not be made of skintight spandex. I really suggest you add more colours, make it darker, and do something about the lightsource :\

D: maybe you should try following the orginal sprites shading. Right now this is horribly pillow shaded. Look up some stuff on lighting effects. Or look to see how other sprites are done.

Even if everything the sprite is wearing is blue, there are multiple shades of blue, you know. Sky blue, dark blue, etc.

Anyway, back on topic: The second attempt is definitely better, though I think part of the reason I think that is because it's not on that lime green background. (Sorry, but I personally can't look at a sprite too long on such a bright background.) Specific things you could work on: There is some pillow shading, as mentioned above. The outline colour of the shirt is a bit dark. The major problem I can see at the moment is the palettes you're using for the trousers and the skin. The skin looks like there's no shading at all, while the trousers have far too bright highlights. Try grabbing a couple premade palettes for spriting (there are some in the HKCP thread) and using those, and that'll make a big difference. Good luck with this, and I hope this helps. :smile:

On topic, you seem to be on track with the colors, but as Raven said, everything is badly pillowshaded.  Don't blank out the sprite like you did, and use the original shading on it as a guide.  Trust me, it helps.

Just seen the sprite further down, Something needs to be done about those pants, they look way too light in the middle, maybe make it darker.
