My first sprite (C&C please!)

Hola, people of the forums. I'd like some C&C on my sprite I am working on. It was a request from someone, but it turns out that I had the wrong gender and RPG maker (she wanted it for 2k3). But, I stuck with it, because I thought it was looking pretty good. And, well, here I am to show it to you:

Unfinished

Please be gentle on me... This is my first one! :thumb: Thanks!

Please don't use without my permission

That looks pretty good, I aplaud you on it. You have a consistency problem, though.
I take it that she's carrying a sword in the front view, you don't have the sword in her hand in any other direction, although you'd only see a *little* of the sword in the back view.

But aside from that, I'd give it a thumbs up. I say finish it and use in your own game.

Lots of people seem to suffer this problem.

You need to add contrast to the shades you use, I reckon. By that, I mean, make it clearer where the outlines are. It seems to be too light at the moment

I can see four problems:
The outlines are too light.
The red and yellow part seems to be a little oddly shaded.
The sword dissapears.
All of a sudden, she turns into a naked man :D

It's good, but her side-view skirt is too .. blocky (i forgot the real word)

right now, there's a line on the end of the skirt that looks like this ----------
when it should be a little more curved.. (atleast I think so..)

Sorry.. i'm really sleepy so I couldn't explain myself too well. :/

Thanks for the comments!

@Inicol1990: What exactly is the consistency problem?
I know she doesn't have a sword in the other frames. I hadn't put it in yet so you could see the battle skirt thingy

@BrunoTR: I will try and darken the lines. Although, I don't know how much darker they'll be able to get.

@Emtch: I will work on the outlines
I really don't know how to do the red/yellow part, have any suggestions?
Again, I was showing her battle skirt thingy
...Is it odd that your the only one that has mentioned the naked man? :thumb:

@Kisa Yukaki: Yeah, I know her skirt is "blocky" but when I try to add dimension to it, it looks almost like she is carrying something in front of her.
                  Hehe, sleep well

Again, thanks for the comments, people!

The sword was the consistency problem, but, if you've left it out to show the skirt, then... my appologies.

It just looked strange that your sprite suddenly lost her sword. Also, if there's going to be a sword in the end, then I think you should show what the end result should look like. Also, I don't see much of the skirt in the side views, so what difference does it make if the sword's there?

My advice to get rid of the blockiness of the skirt is to:

First, pull the front back towards her one pixel.

Second, pull the bottom that covers her leg (or at least most of it) down one pixel.

Ok, how's this?

I also did the second animation on the second row. And I left the third row with the "blocky" skirt so you could compare

The standing animation facing left is so much better. Great job.

Now, I have a quick question. What program are you using to make these? It'll change my advice depending on what you are using.

Sorry. I'm not sure about the saturation, lumination, or hue system on Gimp. Forgive me, but I can't give you exact advice, but . my advice would be to darken the outside of the hair a bit. It will flesh out the whole sprite a little bit. But that doesn't mean to saturate it more, that means to lower the LUM or lumination of the color.

Will do! Thanks.

EDIT*
Ok, here is the update on the hair.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what to do about the skirt thingy?

Loads better already. You know what, I like your style. Keep it up. To make the skirt seem more like a skirt, I would pulkl out the highlight a bit. Either drop the saturation a bit or raise the lumination, or both. Use your own judgement. But the back view is fine. Maybe even make the outline a little lighter, too.

Wow, thanks so much. A compliment like that from someone of your stature means a lot to me

So... make it lighter?

I'm not of a very high "stature" around here. I've just been doing this for about a year. You learn things. Don't worry, you are already getting amazing.

Okay and the outline should be lighter and the highlight on the sideviews. Keep the rest the same and see how it looks.

on the end of the skirt in the side view I think it looks "blocky" becuase it's too straight. the one where she's looking to the right. Try and bend it some like the one where she's looking left. I like this sprite.

Tch, dude, have you seen your work? It's totally awesome! Quit being so damn modest  :shades:

Yes, I left the one facing left blocky for comparison. And thanks for the compliment! :shades:

*EDIT*
Ok, I lightened the skirt. I used the same colors as  the back facing sprite(I don't know why I didn't think of it before )

How does it look now?

I don't know. I think that the previous one looks better. Maybe it's because the highlight is in a weird place on the side view skirt. Maybe put it near the middle.

Alrighty, one sec

EDIT**Ok, I have it a little off-centered to the left (it seems like that side should be lighter to me) but here it is:
