Oh I think it looks pretty good so far. But is his hair straight on the bottom? Right now it's looking like he has spikes on top and then it falls to shoulder length straight. If you're trying for all spikey then you might want to extend some more spikes around his ears and erase that area below them. You got a lot of colors there but you should probably either take some out or contrast them more because you can't really tell right now. Also some shading of the outlines is a helper too. Did you look at Tana's tutorial on hair? She's got one very similar to this in rtp style.
Oh, it's straight at the bottom because of the fact that he is going to wear a bandana. 
And yeah, the hair is a bit messy/spikey and it falls down to shoulder lenght on the backside.
Too many colors? How many do you suggest that I would use? I'm currently using 6.
Also, I slightly updated it, mainly adding the bandana and changing the outline color! Is it better, or worse?

Well it makes the hair line look better, but don't you think it's too striaght across? The head is round so the bandana should curve with it. Five colors is more than enough but you can't really tell you are using that many anyways because they don't contrast each other enough.
