My first character chip...

I'm asking all of you for your opinions on what I have so far.
The outfit is based in a Korean school uniform.
What do you think of it? Be brutally honest.
EDIT: I won't be back until tommorow, so excuse my absence.
5/24 EDIT: Character chip taken down.

You forgot to shade in the forehead. Along with that, the white parts need more shading, and the hair looks flat. Try making it seem more... thread-y. You need more lines running through it. Additionally, the hair outline needs some shading as well.

It's not too bad of a start, I suppose. Then again, I'm not exactly a spriting master. :D

I think an outline would help the appearance greatly. I don't say this often, but it's not flat enough, in my opinion.

Try to cel-shade a smidgen more.

Hmmm.. In my opinion, I think the hair should be bigger, and I think a sharper outline might flesh out the character a wee bit better. Otherwise, it looks nice. Much better than what I could do with my first spriteset ever way back when. Keep at it!

When you say outline, do you mean the whole character, using that purple color on the template? The hair was meant to be thinner. And how do you cel-shade on these templates? It looks wierd.

You don't need to use purple. I believe he's saying that the outline doesn't contrast enough with the actual colour.
The outline should typically be a dark shade of whatever it's outlining. For example, for the vest, the outline would be dark blue. Also make sure that for shinier things, the outline is shaded as well.

Exactly what SpiritZephyr just said. Giving the conrast with outlines and colors will make the sprite look a lot better. Sorry, I should've been more clear.

Your palettes need more contrast. It's very difficult to see the difference between the shades.

That's what I meant by cel-shade, sorry for not clearing it up.

Good luck with future sprites, you're off to a nice start. :)
