My BIG issue with SC4 online

I get so pissed off every time I play Soul Calibur 4 online. I always seem to get the person who's controller only has a damn Y button! I start the game, all of the sudden, as if before the damn match starts I get smashed on the floor by a high damage vertical attack, and then guess what happens? they fricken do it again and again!!! I've come to call them mashers. They're people who go online and use the exact same attack over and over and over and over...  :pissed: It's unbearably annoying. I almost threw my controller at my TV today. Has anyone else played one of these people? or do they just flock to me?

I think you should calm down. It's honestly not that big of a deal, and not really a good topic starter. :/

Either that or you're just really unlucky online.

lol, I do that, but only irl against other people who do the same (stop being such a scrub canada :P)

but I just got SCIV, and I want to unlock some achievements. Though, I'm only moderately good at the game. If you want we could do a few matches.

Well I guess i wouldn't mind it as much if they didn't do the exact same attack constantly, If they learned maybe just one or two moves it wouldn;t make me as mad.

They're most likely doing that, not because they don't know anything else, but because they're using the games engine against itself to win. There's a large group of people who play games strictly to win, and have no problem using in-game bugs and exploits.

Of course, the chivalrous ones only do this when everyone agrees to it.

Good point. With me I guess it depends on the person I'm facing, If i can easily tell that they have been playing for a while, I'm going to be mad. But if it's a level 1 who just got the game two hours ago, I won't be that mad.

and not just because she's a hot goth chick, but her fucking STYLE in general is so fucking CLASSY (hand on hip FENCING is the coolest fucking thing ever)

no, it's still soulcalibur 4. we don't need an entire topic devoted to I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE SPAM ATTACKS so if this morphs into a general soulcalibur 4 character topic that's A-OK!

I personally like Zasalamel done as a female custom character.

Amy's jailbait. Missingno, you are a pedophile.

However Ixis does likey him some Talim.

...Amy is best because of her ridiculously buffed damage from #3. Oh and learn to block then counter your opponent the same way they're fighting you (most times they don't know how to counter their own moves).

Playing any fighting game online has this risk of the people who refuse to do anything but WIN WIN WIN especially if it has less effort. It's something I came to accept on the PS2 with all the introduction of major 3d fighting games.

You would think they would put it on the box or something.

Seong Mi-Na is by far the greatest character in the game. Kilik and Hilde arefairly sweet too, though. (to my play style, at least)
Her combos and trips are good. Her throws may not be as amazing as the others, but her vertical attacks more than make up for it.

Back on topic - yes, it sucks if someone does a repetitive move against you. But if they ARE doing the same thing OVER and OVER, you should wise up to it and be able to hit them with something that'll counterbalance it, ideally. That's life.

Less effort? Less effort than what, losing?

joe sixpack is, technically right, in that some people play to win. And you never know if you're going to get one of those people or someone just playing for fun. But you're a big girl now, you can play the game with just friends.

Or if you have no friends you look around for some. Maybe befriend the people who are just playing to play? Find a handful that are on every day or so and play them sometimes. Then go looking for more people to play against. Lots of people play the game online and it's not hard to find people who play like you.

A simple graph details my point.

Will people use the super combo move or the unblockable easy one button move?

The obvious is the one button move, because hurr durr it is easier.

i'm not saying go out and try and be that one guy that thinks he is the best because he goes for supers, before you even draw that out. Games need balance, and SC4 has almost none of it.

If you know everyone's going to use the super-unblock-able move why don't you jump out of the way, or hit the person before they use it?

There's rarely ever any "one move" that will win the game. Maybe you should just learn to overcome the challenge instead. Won't you feel better than the people who use the "cheap attacks"?

I find most fun in playing someone roughly on my level.

I don't like how that article considers People who play for fun and People who play to win as being mutually exclusive.
Both can be supported simply by having Ranked and Unranked games. One for each mindset.

Having people doing the same move over and over again is boring.
I tried playing against one on Soul Caliber 2 which kept doing the same move even after I learned to counter it and kept crushing her. I didn't play very long since it was too boring as you might guess. (It was like playing against a training dummy.)
