My Animation Colours are messed up

When I import animation graphics, and try to use them in an animation, the colours come out weird. Black doesn't show up at all, while all other colours are translucent and light. Only White is unaffected. I've tried importing the graphics in a bunch of formats (png, gif, jpeg, bmp) but it's always the same. Once I managed to get it working, by c+p another animation and changing the file, but since then it hasn't worked at all. Does anyone know how I can fix it?

When you create a new animation, by default all the graphics are set to "Add." If you double-click each individual graphic on each frame, you can change it to "Normal", which should fix your problem.
