I didnt, its just im on the fucking School of Music pc's and all my mp3's are on my laptop at my apartment.

Ill give 'er a whirl this afternoon if you guys will still be around @__@

Thanks!

I like it. The tempo changes were very cool. For 30 minutes this is nice, but from a teachers perspective, I would probably ask for as little repitition as possible. I would also want to see you display every bit of practical theory and compositional knowledge you have available.

Personally I would have modulated the key half way, even to the relative minor would be perfect.

Good point. I actually didnt display as much knowledge as I could since I was booked for time, but Im going to practice on a piano piece and see if I can concentrate on fundimentals.

Thats a interesting idea. Ill try that, actually later on when I go to the studio.

But yeah im going to write a piano one next, and Id like your opinion on that too. Thanks, man.

Yeah, absolutely. I like your phrases and musical ideas that you presented though, they are neat. I just think overall as sort of a display of your musical prowess, you should focus on a linear, free form composition given that you are only allowed a half hour to write it. Of course you don't want it to sound like it meanders too much, so my idea is to find a very strong motif and stick with it throughout your piece as the main ostinato. It can appear nearly anywhere you want with different variations. Half time, transpose a full step up, double time, change the voicing, etc.

Ultimately, you want to impress your instructors, so go for as much technique as you can.

My percussion professor actually told me the same sort of thing when I was writing for my recitial. Unlike this piece, where the themes stay constant and arent as variant, I tend to try to over-complicate the melodies and this causes and mishap in the overall harmony. I was going to practice alot on keyboard based-mechanics, just in case the test calls for a simplistic notation (I find piano to be easy to write in.)

True. What do you think would be the best instrumental section to receive the melody? Hypothetically if I have a piano, basic string ensemble and maybe a brass section. (Percussion is going to be very light, hopefully) Keep in mind the computers only use GPO so I cant get as creative as I wanted to with the sound (fuck the budgets in sc)

The Dean said he would pass a list of themes on to all the MUS-113 (Theory III) classes in hopes of an early practice. When I get them Ill post because so far your info has been helpful.

Piano can be used for anything, given its range. However if I were doing it myself, I'd use piano for chords mostly, the strings for melody and the brass for counterpoint and supporting harmonic tones.

I actually use this method traditionally, unless requested differently (Although I combine the strings and piano into one fat, luscious melody:3)

I'll input this though, and see what happens.
