Music converters (from .something to .mp3)

Anyone knows some good, free music converters? I'm looking specifically at a .ram to .mp3 converter.

Really, it's a pain in the ass to find one everytime I need one, whether it be WMA, Ogg, etc. There's all a sea of softwares all around 25$. But who's going to pay that much when you need to convert ONE file or two? This is supposed to be, like, basic.

I'm not sure about .ram files, but Audacity can be used to convert quite a few audio types from one to another. I believe Super (primarily a video converter) can do the same. Both of these are completely free, and easy to find.

I personally use Switch Sound File Converter (Same people who make Prism video converter)
It has support for quite a bit of common audio file extensions, like .wma, .mp3, .wav, and some uncommon ones like .raw, .rsx, .rss, and .ape ...
It doesn't support .ram files, but does support .ogg

Then Audacity will be all you need. It may not be able to directly open a few formats (e.g. WMA if I remember), but it can do the job for any format that you can play with a player by internally recording the sound your computer produces. Simply go to Edit->Preferences, and set the recording source to internal (the actual text varies from comp to comp, but it's things like Wave-Out or Stereo Mix). Then click Record, play the WMA song with things like Windows Media Player, and save the file after it's done recording (and after adjusting volume, etc.).

For files like .WAV that it can directly open, though, you can simply open it, and Save-As another format. To save as Mp3, you need to download an additional .dll that Audacity's website will link you to.

Those are all pretty good softwares, but don't do what I need  . Oh well, back to finding a free version of those sharewares somewhere else, I suppose :boo: . Thanks all!

My Ram files ended up being a link to some internet file (RealPlayer downloaded it each time by itself, so I didn't notice), so it actually turns out to be IVR files. I didn't manage to find something able to convert that either (it may have something to do with that file type being proprietary or something). RealPlayer can convert those, if you burn them to CD first using the pro version. That's what I'm trying right now.

Edit : Ok it works. Wasted a CD and needed a torrent to achieve that tough

Can't you play that type of sound file with a player that you have to make a sound, though? (I might be misunderstanding, but just in case so if it works, you can do it with ease in the future). As long as you can play it with say, real player or whatnot, you'll be able to internally record the song with no quality loss via programs like Audacity and (I presume) Goldwave - then save it as the desired format, which is just like a conversion.

I am Using dBpoweramp Music Converter 13.3 for converting Music files, but i am not sure that it converts .ram to .mp3. You just try it out may be it's possible.
