Music Collection

THE BIG .ORG MUSIC COLLECTION
~post all your cool musics here!!

This thread is for the (not so very) rare occasions when you find awesome music
If these occur, from now on, you share it. In this thread to be more precise.
You do that so other people can also enjoy the music that changed your life.

This thread is not meant for discussion though. If we can make a nice compendium
of music here, and discuss it in the Music Discussion thread, that would be cool.

So, to prevent this thread from becoming an unreadable list of links, there will be a post format
you have to follow. This will give some information about whatever it is you post.

posting format, replace all {content} with the information it describes:

Lana Lane
Genre: symphonic rock, progressive metal

lana.png

"Lana has been dubbed as "The Queen of Symphonic Rock" by her fans and the press, and yet she remains a very versatile artist able to move from intimate jazz pieces to bone crushing progressive metal. But in the end it is Lana's love of melody and artistry that reigns over all." from her official site because I cba

Personally I love her voice. She also does lots of cover songs without completely ruining them which seems to be a rarity.

Best song: my favourite is 'Escher's Staircase'

Other good songs:
-Symphony of Angels
-Keeper of the Flame
-White Rabbit (Jefferson Airplane cover - some may remember it from the Alice in Wonderland twodo I did forever ago)
-Under the Olive Tree

Good guest appearances:
-"2084" and "Dragon on the Sea" (on Ayreon - The Dream Sequencer)

Infected Mushroom
Genre: Electro, and a little bit of everything else~

Infected+Mushroom+infectedmushroom.jpg

“Infected Mushroom” is an Israeli psychedelic trance (psytrance) DJ/LivePA duo who have attained significant popularity from the late 1990s to the present day." -last.fm quote

Their music doesnt really range from anything to anything, but their sound is really unique. Their electro features hard, raw beats, but there are also a lot of tempo changes, and different effects and instruments. I only listen to their latest album; Vicious Delicious, because i'm afraid that i wont like the earlier ones. I dont know those though, but VD is a really good album. It's hard and easy on the ears at the same time.

Best song: 'Heavyweight'
Their best song by far, it's a very long song which starts out with some rough techno-y stuff, and ends with a heavy distorted guitar solo which is popping up throughout the whole song.

Other good songs:
-Vicious Delicious
-Suliman
-Artillery (this is something different though, more rap.. i'm still not sure whether i like this or not)

Antoine Dufour
Genre: Acoustic

antoine_dufour.jpg

"Antoine Dufour (born in L'Épiphanie, Quebec) is a French-Canadian acoustic guitarist currently signed to CandyRat Records." -Wikipedia

It wasn't a while till I discovered 'fingerstyle' guitar playing from many musicians like Antoine Dufour. Up to this day I don't know what
really draws me to his music. Maybe it's the technicality that oozes out of every verse he plays, but also perhaps the infinite range of
experimentation he pursues in each song.

Best Song : Spiritual Groove [w/violin accomp]

Detektivbyrån (The Detective Agency)
Genre:Instrumental / Experimental

detekt1.jpg

(from wiki)

Detektivbyrån ("The Detective Agency") is a Swedish electronica and folk music trio from Gothenburg. The group consists of Anders "Flanders" Molin (accordion, music box); Jon Nils Emanuel Ekström (drums, sound box, small bells); and Martin "MacGyver" Molin (glockenspiel, traktofon, toy piano, Theremin).
The three members grew up in the small town of Karlstad Sweden, located in Värmland County, but they did not form a band until they had moved to Gothenburg in 2005. The usage of more unusual instruments such as the accordion was inspired both by its prominent use in the soundtrack for Amélie as well as musical traditions in Värmland. As the band also played as street musicians there was originally also a requirement to have portable instruments such as the glockenspiel.

They have a lighthearted intro and hard rush feel to most of their songs, and use alot of experimental stuff. The melodies in their songs are very catchy and memorable, and show they have a wide range of musical ability.

God is an astronaut
Genre: post-rock, instrumental, ambient, experimental

3042287.jpg

God is an astronaut makes a nice ambient blend of a lot of instruments, with heavy guitar influences, although, in their later albums they take on more of an ethnic sound, which also sounds REALLY good. i like their album 'all is violent, all is bright' the most. that contains two of my favorite songs of them. also, their newest album; 'god is an astronaut', obviously named after the band, is pretty good too. I didn't really listen to that yet. One song stood out though, that was 'zodiac', more about that in the best songs section.

This band caught my attention as soon as i first heard of them. Their name made me laugh, but their music is really something. I listened to it while relaxing and traveling and the like. its first or second in my 'most played' list on last.fm, so..

Best song: 'All is violent, all is bright' also an album title;; holyshit @_@

Other good songs:
-Remembrance day
-Fire flies and empty skies
-Zodiac
-..everything else

Russian Circles
Genre: Post-rock, progressive rock, experimental

russiancircles_2.jpg

Easily one of the best American post-rock bands to surface in recent years. Russian Circles is three-piece group whose music ranges from heavy rock to slow, melodic and sprawling ballads. Many of the songs are crafted using a guitar loop petal which provides the songs with some crazy layering effects. The drummer, David Turncrantz, is freaking amazing. An overall awesome post-rock band and must hear for any fan of the genre.

Best song: 'Harper Lewis'

Other good songs:
- Carpe
- Enter
- Melee
- Geneva
- The Mountain Calls Mohammed
- You Already Did

@Tomas: God Is an Astronaut are amazing, man. They need to come to America sometime.

Stars
Genre: Indie Pop

605746_thumbnail_280_Stars_Stars_Canada.jpg

Stars' music has been described as "beautiful, eloquent indie pop"[5], characterized by lush instrumentation, nimble production and mixing, narrative lyrics, and soft but nuanced vocals. Their music is smooth, emotional, and mostly relaxing. It's something to sleep to, maybe, but is also quite deep

Best song: 'What I'm Trying To Say'

-My Favorite Book
-Your Ex Lover is Dead
-Calender Girl

J Dilla
Genre:(Instrumental) Hip-Hop, Neo Soul

dilla.jpg

J Dilla was a Hip-Hop producer who became known for his notable producing for Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest and Common.
After his death in 2006 his music became very popular in the Hip-Hop community (surprise) and his beats are still being used by known rappers
(for example, Raekwon's new album, Only Built For Cuban Linx 2).

In my opinion the best hip-hop producer ever. Each of his beats are so unqiue and he really knows how to pick the right samples for beats.

Best song: Fuck The Police

Other good songs:
Won't Do
Dilla Says Go
Airworks
Last Donut of the Night

LADY GAGA
Genre:Pop
