Multiple Storylines?

I believe the American title was Secret of Mana 2, but as I have only played it as Seiken Densetsu 3 I could be mistaken. Basically what I want to try and do is an aspect from this game. In SD3, players can choose a party of 3 people that they will use throughout the game from a list of 6. All 6 characters have interweaving storylines, but the initial character that you choose is the one whose storyline you actually follow, with the other 2 characters having their story mixed in.

What I would like to do is set it up so that anyone that chooses to play my game can follow a different storyline depending on the character that they choose. So Character A has a different storyline than Character B, even if there are similar aspects.

It's an idea that I've had, but I'm not too familiar with Ruby so I'm not sure if this IS possible. If this is and somebody has already made a script for it I'd really appreciate being linked to it. If it's possible and nobody has done it yet, that'd be good to know too so I can at least attempt to learn enough Ruby to cover this. And if it's not possible at all (which will suck) I'll just have to go about choosing a different way to do this.

I know that it's possible to choose your class, gender, and name, I was just curious if it was possible to choose your storyline as well.

This should be possible with a few simple switches at the beginning of a game, no need to script really.. What you do is make the storyline for all of the people you want selectable. At the beginning of the game you just set the switch depending on who they choose to follow, and have that switch start that characters storyline.

I agree with seita. Scripting in this case would be redundant to using switches unless I'm missing something in the design. If you were to script something like this it would be a module holding a solitary class variable. Depending on this variable various conversations and scenes would change. But its overkill really in comparison to ease switches that already save themselves.

Yeah, thanks.

I just haven't done anything in RMXP in months, and when I used it last it was just to learn it. Never got a storyline or anything together so that I could start a worthwhile project.

If it's that easy, I'm good to go. Well, not really, but I'm good to proceed =P
